any point in lectures?

I go to a uni where all my lectures are recorded and uploaded for me to watch

I have skipped most of my lectures so far, especially early morning ones.

Am i missing something?

My reasoning is:

Loud flatmates with no common decency and screechy voices so i dont sleep until about 4am, this mixed with my depression at an all time low makes it a ton of effort to get out of bed in time for lectures earlier than 12

Watching them online i pay more attention - im comfy, can pause and rewind bits i dont understand, take breaks when needed and watch as many times as i need

Cant socialise in lectures, and finding it hard to enjoy the company of anyone lately.

Im not missing out on the interaction because i wouldnt put my hand up anyway, and i can email lecturers or ask on a groupchat with coursemates if im confused about something

Why does everyone else still go to lectures? Am i missing some big point?

(also have any freshers not gone out once at night since starting? I cant face going out with people i dont know well after some bad experiences, but now everyones grouped off apart from me)

If they are all online thats good. I enjoy the socialising before during and after.
You are a fresher?
Hiding in your room is just going top make your depression and enforced isolation worse. If you end up with no friends, then you will know why.
Hey.
To be honest, as already put, it's no good stowing away in your room.
Make the effort to go, speak to people, otherwise you'll be isolated if there's ever group work and things of that nature!
Plus, if you ever need help, you'll have people to communicate with.
I learn a lot more being at a lecture than watching or reading it back home. Chance to ask questions, hear people ask questions, that sort of thing.

But how will you ever know the joy of having earplugs in so far its painful yet still being vibrated by bass in my bed 😮
One big issue with online lectures is simply human error, they might be old, out of date, missing key info...I know lecturers who make a point of bulking out the in class lecture with extra material, the recorded one is bare bones basic. In class is also where you get assignment and exam hints.

Also if you haven't bothered turning up for lectures, you might find that when you need to email a lecturer, they don't bother helping, or maybe even replying, and you won't have much luck complaining if no one knows who you are. My head of program straight out said this, 'If they don't make the effort, fk em'

I personally think it's pretty arrogant to start uni and instantly decide lectures are beneath you.

I have gone to lectures but when i watch the same lecture on video i get the same experience but better bc i can rewind it, the online lectures are a film of the original lecturelso its identical to what id see if i was present. I dont have classes or seminars just lectures and labs(which i obviously attend), and my lectures are so big the lecturers wont notice whether i go to lectures or not, no attendance is taken.
So no, im not being arrogant, i just dont see the point in going to watch a powerpoint when im sleep deprived and dont gain anything extra from it when i get the lecturer talking as well as the powerpoint online for use whenever

It'll depend on the format, and i'm sure you know your own uni best, when I say arrogance i'm speaking generally. not pointing a finger.

It does mean you lose the ability to ask any questions or follow ups though? Rewinding and rewatching is handy, but if you didn't get it the 1st time you might not get it the 2nd, 3rd, 4th....you might need it explained differently (or you might potentially save a lot of time if it was explained differently at the time or you were able to ask)

I'm possibly biased, i'm in the Scottish system, and a trade off for not paying fees is your attendance absolutely is monitored. I'm also a mature student so arguably more focused, the idea of returning to uni and then not going just seems bizarre. I'm in a pretty close knit industry (Horticulture) so the relationships I form with my peers and lecturers, often national experts in their fields, they really matter and I won't advance them by staying away...as said, my head of program admitted point blank, 'if they don't make the effort, fk em' and that stuck with me.
