Can I apply for a doctoral loan if my funding runs out mid PhD

Hello,

the university have suggested that they may be able to offer me a partly funding PhD place (for 1 year). Then I can reapply for funding. However, if that application is not successful would I be able to apply for a postgraduate, doctoral loan for the remaining years when I won't be receiving any other funding?
thanks

Hi,
In order to determine your eligibility, please confirm:

1. Which university and course you are looking to start your studies with?
2. How old you are.
3. Your nationality, current status and time spent within the UK.
4. Any previous study and qualifications you may hold.
Thanks, Isaac

Hi Isaac,

It's with the university of Sheffield and it's a particle physics PhD.
I'm 44 , British and have always lived in the UK.
I currently hold 2 undergraduate degrees, one is a BSc in physics the other is an integrated masters in maths.
Thanks

Hi, you should be eligible for the doctoral loan as long as you are not in receipt of the following:

Research Council (RC) studentships, stipends, scholarships and tuition fee support
Social work bursary
Educational Psychology Bursary and their course starts on or after 1st August 2020
NHS bursary
National Institute for Health Research bursary
Postgraduate Loan for Masters course
Undergraduate HE funding (except PG DSA)

You wouldn't be eligible for a postgraduate masters loan as you already have studied an integrated masters course.
Thanks, Isaac
