I have limited leave to remain and in order to be eligible for student finance. You have to be ordinary residence for at least 3 years before the start of your course.
Does that just mean living in the UK 3 years prior to your course???

Yep, although from reading government docs relating to the issue there are some pretty conflicting answers, but most likely yes.
