I think the old hands on here are expecting cut offs in general to go down a bit, mainly at the ones which reduced the number of interviews last year. However, there was a lot of pressure on the ones which were previously the refuge for lower UCAT scorers. ARU went from 2430 to 2640, Aston's points cut off went from 29/36 to 32/36, QUB from 30/42 to 38/42. I think it will continue to be difficult for people with UCAT scores under 2600 to get interviews.

Completely different subject...... We were wondering how true it is that an orthopaedic surgeon's job feels very repetitive. If you end up doing a lot of knees and hips, is the job satisfaction good? My son spends a lot of time in the gym and people say that strong doctors make good orthopaedic surgeons. Think he wants to be a GP anyway, but interested to know whether strength is useful and what you think the good and bad things are about that specialism.

Well….
Orthopaedics is obviously the best speciality….

The definition of a GP is someone who knows less and less about more and more

The definition of a consultant is someone who knows more and more about less and less.

Ultimately and it’s true in most walks of life we get good at what we do a lot of and whether you are a hip surgeon (doing hip replacements) or a GP (looking at rashes and handing out sick notes). But we get good because of the repetition.

It is a misconception that orthopaedics surgeons are strong as a horse and twice as clever…. We aren’t all that strong 😉

So did you make the right choice for you?! No hankering to be a pathologist?!

I asked this before, but reposting just in case.

Does anyone know anything about interview this year:
- in-person or on-line ?
- how many MMI stations, format, etc ?

Thanks.

I called them a few months ago because I had some other Qs for admissions and also asked them about interviews. They said they were going to be online for this year. So I’m assuming they will be the same format etc as last year .

Thanks a lot. I was asking for my son. This sucks. So, we will avoid Plymouth this year.

Do you know anything about Exeter interviews by any chance, in-person or online ?

Sorry, no idea about exeter. But I would think online interviews would be better for us? I was kind of relieved that Plymouth would be doing interviews online again . Much less stress and anxiety.

Yes, it works for some people. I just know that it doesn't work for him, so he prefers in-person. Good luck this year !

Exeter is on line, so are Cambridge, Bristol, Leicester. Not sure about others.
