Just wondering, since and interview would take 2-3 hours max...

Because you won't necessarily have all of your interviews on the same day.

Most people get >1 interview, and they have a lot of people to interview. They have to decide if they want to interview you again, or if they want someone else to etc.
Also, having umpteen interviews on one day would be murderous.

Do you have to keep yourself entertained while you're there?

I live in Oxfordshire, will I still be required to stay the whole time (I'll be missing Eddie Izzard because of it :p:)?

This is also going under the large, and misplaced, assumption that I'll get an interview.

... they only require you to be present in the day, you're not obliged to take their hospitality.

Well, if you'd prefer to keep yourself bored, I'm sure you'll be able to do that as well...:p:

The JCR contingent that stays behind for interviews tends to organise things - I don't know of anybody who wasn't given the opportunity to socialise at least in the evenings.

Well, I got told by a first (now second year) Corpus Christi Law student that they went ice skating.

They want to clone you, every year the science boffs take the DNA of applicants and clone them for reasons only known to the boffs.

What are you guys all moaning for- as the OP says, the interviews take like 3 hours maximum. In exchange you get a 2-4 day city break away from school, away from parents etc. with a bunch of likeminded people your age. Interviews are awesome!

The rest of us have to pay to stay in college.

The interview period is indeed awesome. The interview helpers tend to organise stuff, I think, but I think most interviewees tend to group up and entertain themselves. We went to see The Golden Compass one evening whilst I was up.

I think it's awesome you have to stay for a while. It makes it into an adventure instead of one quick horribly nerve-wrecking moment.
