The Official Qatar World Cup 2022 Thread

Why not start the opening post about the farce that is FIFA when talking about a farce of a World Cup.

World Cup 2022: Fifa tells all competing nations to 'focus on football' in Qatar

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/63506951

After bribery and corruption to have the WC awarded to Qatar, FIFA now have the audacity to tell the nations/players/staff what to do.

Ignore that we're having a WC in the winter and disrupting all the national football seasons.

FIFA doesn't want people bringing attention to Qatar's stance on same-sex relationships, its human rights record and its treatment of migrant workers.

I think it's ok to have the world cup in Qatar.
Really struggling to get hyped for this. Maybe I will feel differently once the Premier League stops?

Fancy either Brazil or Argentina to win it.
Qatar and other middle-eastern countries and territories are great champions of human rights and look after all who turn up there, whether they are rich or workers.

I have no idea who half the players in the top teams are but I’ll take a wild guess and say Brazil because they haven’t won the World Cup since 2002. Remember when they lost 7-1 to Germany in the semi-finals in 2014 - I wasn’t allowed to watch it because I had to sleep!

England’s hopes rest solely on Harry Kane.
I wonder how much Qatar has spent on the World Cup compared to aid they have given to their neighbours in yemen
Obviously one of the worst world cups.
An absolute disgrace

Brazil will win it

I think that it is nonsense to have it in winter and at christmas time. Ruined the vibes and the injuries of footballers incrase due to the lack of relaxation.

This would be the perfect tournament for England to win the World Cup as it would be tainted forever :coma:

Just think of Argentina in 1978 when the world cup was kicked off there and people who critized the militarian dictatorship were abducted and killed during the competition. Qatar in retrospective is not the first time and that makes me sad anyway.

Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has been named in Brazil's squad for the Fifa World Cup in Qatar but Liverpool's Roberto Firmino has been left out.

Brutal. I saw that Son is going - probably going to have to wear a face mask etc and I imagine there is some risk in playing.
Southgate announces his squad tomorrow. He has made great decisions in 2018 and 2021 when people told him to make certain decisions such as dropping Pickford, starting Grealish, not playing 5 at the back etc and he has been proven right in those decisions so far.

My guess would be something like:
Goalkeepers
Pickford, Ramsdale, Pope
Defenders
Trippier, TAA, Walker (injured but why not), Shaw, Maguire, Dier, Coady, Stones, White
Midfielders
Rice, Bellingham, Henderson, JWP, Mount, Madisson
Attackers
Kane, Foden, Grealish, Sterling, Rashford, Wilson, Saka, Abraham

White will probably go because he can play different positions even though Tomori is probably better than him. Phillips hasn't played at all this season so he won't go and Southgate loves Ward-Prowse. Toney won't go because of the betting allegations leaving Wilson and Abraham.

If we're being honest though, the available players are pretty **** compared to the other top nations. Our only world-class player is Kane. The centre backs are terrible. I don't think he'd take another specialist left back because Trippier can play there and the other options aren't that good. Southgate will play Shaw regardless and then Tripper at right wing back because he doesn't want to start TAA.

He is not the only one. There are another good footballers who are out: click here for the list!

And I am afraid that the numbers of injuries may increase during the competition. The footballers have hardly no time for a break, I am not so surpised that so many of them are already out. The fitness of the players is sacrificed without a doubt. What is a world cup still worth, if the best players can't take part in competition?

Tbh I think world cup is always a summer thing, feels weird having it now. Like the idea of having a few beers in a beer garden and watching matches all day.

Quite a few top players out this time.

List of players injured.

Mane, James, Pogba, Kante, Chilwell, Werner, Jota, Lukaku for starters. Kovacic also playing on his last legs instead of doing surgery.

Stupid idea.

No Tomori lmao. I expect this to be the squad too. Way too much pressure to have Maddison.

Phillips could come in if pep declares him fit.

Imagine taking Phillips when he's hardly played any football in like a year?

Imagine thinking our manager isn't Southgate.

Also Joachim low did the exact same thing with khedira.

Which year did Low do that? Khedira was very experienced and had played for Germany for years by that point?

Phillips basically has had one big year with England - still only on 23 England caps. And barely played for a big club.. His style of play also needs 100% fitness to run around like a headless chicken.
