You normally do a gap year as a year before you start university or you can do a year after uni its up to you

As has already been said, when you do a gap year is entirely up to you! I have a friend who did 2 gap years before starting university, and I myself am going to be having a couple of gap years after I finish my current degree. It's entirely up to you and your preference - if you aren't sure about going to university, then doing a gap year beforehand is a good option, to see if it really is something that you want to do. And doing a gap year after university is helpful for if you want to do a further degree, but you want a break in between, either to do something different from academia, or to decide specifically what direction you want to go in with your next course.
