Are two excellent books to teach programming. Unlike your typical Python books, they focus on writing actually good, effective programs, teaching skills that transfer across pretty much every other programming language. Do these once, and you'll be able to pick up any other language in a weekend or so
I'd recommend doing htdp first since it's a little easier.
