Yes, Applied Computing is still a worth-while course to take in order to get you foot in the door to the computing industry. It is important to remember that a degree is not the ultimum that defines your career, find the route you want take and stick to it, specialising in this industry is a great attribute to success.
In terms of careers based on just the degree alone, with it being an applied course you will focus less on the mathematical fundamentals of computer science so any role that requires a strong mathematical background (quantitative development, algorithm engineering, data science) will be a little trickier to secure.
