how to make an ipad a second monitor with mac-- without USB C and Sidecar?

Hi I'm trying to connect the ipad to my mac for a second monitor but it isnt working. I dont think my mac has sidecar (its mid 2015 edition) and im not sure what to do. My Display settings has nothing compared to the videos i watched and i dont know what to do anymore. Any help?
