Was it a date?

I messaged a guy I'd just met (through friends) to get coffee and I thought it was pretty obvious that I was asking for a date but my friends thought it really wasn't. We did meet up and it was nice and but nothing super special (he did seem kinda nervous around me tho at first)- we talked about all the typical first date things when I met up with him, but haven't really messaged much since then, and when we did hang out, we never actually acknowledged whether it was a date or not.

My question is: if a girl you'd just met messaged you to get coffee afterwards, would you have interpreted that as a date? Cos my friends say they wouldn't have seen it as a date. And I don't wanna ask him outright if it was a date cos if he thought it wasn't, that would be so awkward and I don't wanna ruin the chance of us just being friends.

Ask him out again, this time making it more obvious how you mean. Either he'll say no or he'll agree - either way, you'll know where you two stand with each other!
