MA Applied Linguistics at Durham or Sheffield

Hello,

I have offers from Durham University, University of Sheffield and Birmingham. I didn't apply anywhere else because I didn't really know much about the reputation of different universities in the UK, aside from Oxbridge. So I just stuck to Russell Group and choose the 3 courses that appealed to me the most. I'll be taking the MA with a view to do a PhD afterwards.

I like Sheffield's flexible variety of modules and specializations the best, but I'm abit worried about the quality of teaching.

Durham's MA has some core modules in TESOL with the option to take modules in Applied Linguistics - a good opportunity to do both specializations, I think.

I didn't apply to UCL. I missed the deadline. I wasn't really considering it, but a friend of mine told me it's top 3 for linguistics and 1st in the world for education. I considered postponing my plans to next year just to get into UCL. Another option is Edinburgh. I'm not sure if the wait or extra money I'd pay is worth it to be honest.

So any advice? Durham or Sheffield?
