17 years old not allowed to use phone

I'm 17 and my parents have had this really firm take on my upbringing that they continue to do now, my parents still take away my phone the minute I come back from school and don't allow me to use it during the weekends. They believe that the sole purpose of the phone is for me to call and tell them where I am, telling me that I should focus on revising but they already know as of my recent exams that I do well academically. They see it as a form of discipline, which I just think is unnecessary, they used to do this to my brother but they stopped when he was in Year 13, but when I confronted them about this CALMLY just now he shouted at me and told me "I will never see it again" and "he knows what to do to stubborn people like me" and "just shut your mouth". I'm literally going to be 18 in January, I'm crying and I don't know what to do anymore none of my friends know because it's so embarrassing. I just need advice or something even if it's only a few words it'd be so appreciated. Also, I want to get a job and buy my own phone but the minute he sees it he's gonna shout at me and confiscate it.

(I can't wait to move out next year and to go to a uni far from home and finally start to actually live like everyone else)

Boy, that's some real parental overbearing behaviour right there. Anyway, it's just a year of this left, so you can do it. When you get your own place, you can have as many phones as you like.

OMGGGGGGGG i have neeverrrrrr met anyone in the same situation as meeeeee
IM 17 an i litr dont have a phone
okay story time
so in yr 10 i saved up for a wholeee year to buy a phone cuz my dad jus seemed to act as if i didnt need one (i only live with my dad)
I used my lunch money to do this (i was given like £15 a week) and birthday and christmas money
so i ended up buying a huawei for 200
then because me and my dad argueeee alottttttttttttttttttttt he took it and like neverr gave it backkkkkkk
so in yr 12 because we get a busury i spent it on a phone - iphone xr and i was hiding it
this was going smoothly for about 4 months until i forgot to hide it one day (guess i was getting a bit tooooo comfortable) and he found it
so now i currently have no phone and therefore saving for another
i think im gonna use my trust fund to buy one

my advice it to jus wait
But i understand the LITERAL FRUSTRATION u are feeling cuz im litr goin thru the same thing and living in a strict household is soooo toxic and it can be lonely not contacting ur friends
buh i do have a laptop issued by my sixthform so i jus email my friends on there - it does sound a bit odd buh im lonely so anything will suffice
i am defo moving out for uni too
alsooooo im turning 18 in Jan as wellllll 31st

obvs idk how strict ur parents are buhhh
invest in a laptop or ipad for now - use the exuse that it is for school, hw etc buh make sure u can use it in uni for the next 3 or 4 years unless u r gonna trade it in later on for a better one
keep saving and wait for ur birthday they cant say nothin after that
focus on ur a levels and stuff u dont have to buy one now

it feels soo nice to meet someone or at least read something that relates so specifically to me sooo thank uuu
u made my day xx
