Poll

Btecs > A levels at some degree

For those who may not have known Level 3 Btec Qualifications come in different sizes , the smallest being the National Certificate equivalent to 0.5 (half) of an A level to the largest being the extended Diploma equivalent to 3 A levels. Why stress your self over the two years And Pick 3 A levels when you can pick 3 Btecs ( by combining 3 National Extended certificates each equivalent to one A level ) especially when you are not doing any STEM subjects. At the end of the day D*D*D* ( A*A*A*) at Btec is way more better than 3Cs at A levels which is around the national average. Students should release this stigma on Btecs because at the end of the day someone like me who is doing 3 btecs in Law , Business and IT working at D*s will be sat in the same university , doing the exact same course as someone who did 3 A levels and got Ds And Cs. And this same student will beat himself / herself and ask himself / herself why he or she never done btecs and stressed for 2 whole years for nothing. And for those who say that A levels will get you into good unis need to understand that it is the degree in which is important and how you capitalise on it , you shouldn't go to satisfy this ‘british tradition’ of heading to oxford and Cambridge unless you want to s*ck off the royal family in the houses of lords. You actually learn skills in Btecs ( excluding STEM A levels). How could you possibly take English Literature At A level and expect for someone to hire you because you know all too damn well about Hamlet seeking revenge for his fathers killing ; you could be taking A Btec in law or criminology to apply your learning in real life scenarios and make bank. People need to think ‘Smarter’ and Not harder. The government makes you do A levels so it satisfies their own economy to employ more teachers into the system so that when you start a family you are already in debt plus bills over bills. Why would somebody with a first class in politics opt out to teach the subject at A level ? Surley the person wanted to be a politician but forgot that students that did econ / maths at A level are the real politicians. So warning to all humanities A level students . Btec is the future. Just do 3 Btecs personally i believe one btec is if you know what you certainly want to do and or your just very lazy and unserious but 3 btecs are just better. You get the best of both worlds theory and practical. The cons are that you will have 3 exams in January but the revision in November till january will be worth your wait and i don't mean constantly revising till the end of the academic term for your sixth form / college to kick you out because you didn't meet the entry requirements. Btecs are the future. Peace out.

If BTECs worked well for you, that's great. However, some people prefer the exam-based style of A-Levels and you shouldn't denounce Humanities A-Levels for everyone else just because they're not for you.

I'm a Maths student who did three STEM A-Levels with only one semi-Humanities A-Level (French).

Also, as a side note, you may wish to look into the hierarchy of disagreement if you think that this is a good refute.

I never actually commented on whether BTECs were superior or not to A-Levels. In my opinion, it depends on the person and their preferences and, for many people, I agree that BTECs are the better option. My sister did BTECs and she excelled in them and I think they were great for her. They don't work for me as I find the idea of coursework much more stressful; I struggle with deadlines and it just feels like two years worth of exams rather than two weeks. I get that this isn't a viewpoint held by many people which is why I didn't say either way. I also haven't voted on your poll for the same reason and, even if I had an A-Level revision group - which would be strange given that I finished my A-Levels almost three years ago, I wouldn't get them to vote on your poll either.

If you read my comment back, my main point was that you shouldn't denounce Humanities A-Levels just because it's not a style of learning that works best for you. There are advantages and transferable skills from both types of qualification and one isn't inherently better or worse than the other.
