city accommodation or campus accommodation?

I'm a prospective student trying to figure out accommodation, is there a clear advantage to living in the city or campus. I am looking for en suite ideally under £200. How do the uni buses work, is it inconvenient having to take a bus into campus everyday? Do the buses stop running after a certain time? Is there less of a community feeling in the city?

Hi there,

I lived in student accommodation in my first year so hopefully I can help answer your questions! Most of our accommodation is located on campus therefore you may have more options to choose from here, but we also have some in the city centre if you would prefer this. Here, you can compare our accommodation prices and see what’s included: https://www.bath.ac.uk/corporate-information/undergraduate-accommodation-prices/ .

I would say an advantage of living on campus is that you eliminate the commute in your first year, especially when you are still getting to know the campus and the city. Also, it means you can easily go back to your accommodation i.e. for lunch or a quick break between your lectures. However, there are regular buses to and from campus (only ~15-minute journey) with bus stops located close to our city accommodations. You can find out all about our Uni buses (U1 and U2) here: https://www.firstbus.co.uk/bristol-bath-and-west/routes-and-maps/universities/university-bath-bath-unibus . Having both lived on campus in my first year and commuted during my second, I can say that there wasn’t any major difference apart from having to wake up a bit earlier for the short commute!!

In terms of community feeling, I find that this is present both on campus and in the city. Since Bath has 2 universities, there is a large population of students so there is lots going on in terms of student life. Although the Student union is located on campus, many societies may host social events in the city centre. I think its really down to personal preference so I would recommend visiting if you’re able to, and browse through our accommodation online to see which options suit you! I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any more questions.

Sharon (3rd year student)
