Please can someone help finish the sentence for my English language

My original sentence was:

As we walked through the double doors, the cold air hit us like a cannonball.

I don't like the cannonball part and am wondering what to replace it with but still keep it as a simile

Maybe: As we walked through the double doors, the cold air hit us like a bullet/missile.

Or: As we walked through the double doors, the cold air stabbed us like a needle (metaphor + simile in one)
