For A level media studies OCR can anyone help me with this question?

Explain how the output of content of public service broadcasters (PSBs) is ‘distinctive’ from commercial radio. Refer to The BBC Radio One Breakfast Show to support your answer.
In your answer, you must consider how economic, political and cultural contexts influence the radio industry.

Hey,

Sorry that this is very late but R1BS is distinctive from commercial radio for numerous reasons and your case study shoul help you provide more detailed evidence but here are a few brief reasons:

News beat: unlike commercial radio, R1 has to adhere to both its public purposes (news beat fulfils the first 3 purposes) and adhere to its remit- the requirement allows for them to produce distinctive output even if at times this disadvantages the show due to its younger target audience.

R1BS's ability to attract large stars- did your case study have any celebrity guests?

R1BS's promotion of established and emerging artists through its use of play listing, making it distinct from commercial radio.

R1BS's promotion of live music through live lounge and BBC R1 Big Weekend.

R1BS's use of digital convergence,

Perhaps even briefly mention the world service if you talk about the range of audiences reached making them distinct.

You could even argue that in an attempt to maintain the universally declining audience R1BS is no longer entirely distinct from commercial radio.

Hope this helps!
