Temporary position

Hello. I graduated in July with a Bachelor's with Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. I failed to get into the 2023 graduate scheme so I'm attempting for the 2024. In the meantime, I decided to get a temporary job as a cover supervisor because I have had experience working with younger people (had a summer activity leader job last year and really enjoyed it) and I think it's something I could do well in. I've been joining seminars lately to get some advice and while some agree with my decision, one said he wouldn't recommend getting a temporary job which is in a different sector to the scheme I am applying for so I want get some advice. Am I doing the right thing? I haven't lost focus on engineering - started doing some Coursera courses in August. I look forward to hearing. Thank you.
