Train fine help needed!

Hey everyone, some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Last month I was silly and forgot to have my railcard on me and instead of just having to buy another ticket, they have fined me. The letter came in the post last week, but only got back to my uni house today. I have been trying to appeal the fine but the prefix on the letter (for northern railway) doesn’t match up with the one on their website so I can’t currently appeal it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I really don’t want to pay the fine.

The appeals are usually done through a specific company that manage the penalty fares. That's probably why it doesn't match up. I'd call Northern Rail if I was you and speak to someone directly to get some clarification.
