How does the UCL STAT test work?

Alongside the UCAS application system, UCL will invite shortlisted applicants to sit the STAT (Special Tertiary Admissions Test) run by the Australian Council for Education Research, to help us assess shortlisted applicants’ suitability for the programme. The fee for the test is £124. UCL Admissions will send full test details and instructions to shortlisted applicants. If you are eligible for Access UCL and are shortlisted, a voucher will be provided and you will not have to pay the test fee.

So this is the info provided. They said that you will only do the test after getting an offer so what is the point of the test? I am a bit confused and also does anyone know some good practice papers for this? Thanks
Not too sure either mate. Looking for an answer too.

From what I have been told, ppl will be shortlisted late-Feb and sit the STAT some time March.

Just waiting for emails atm.

hi, don't know if you have realised this since it's been 2 months since the post but, people will be sitting the test before receiving offers and if you are shortlisted it doesn't imply you will be given an offer. Link to the info: stat_computer_science_test_2024_cycle.pdf (ucl.ac.uk)

2nd bullet point 2nd paragraph.
