Estate agents issues

How do you know if the estate agents have actually put through a offer on a property?
Most will send email confirmation after the instruction by phone or face to face.

Is there anyway of getting proof e.g that the vendor has seen it?

Knock on the door and ask them. By law, estate agents are bound to pass on any offers regardless of what they might be. It is in the vendor's interests to receive all offers.

To knock on someone's door? Of course! Or you could put a letter through their door. Have you never knocked on someone's door before?

I was more concerned about breaking any laws about approaching the vendor without the estate agents knowledge

You aren't breaking anything. The estate agent knows your intentions because you have made an offer. You are merely ensuring that the estate agent isn't breaking any laws by not passing your offer to the vendor. You could even negotiate directly with the vendor and as long as the estate agent is informed of the outcome, everything is bob on.
