Does anyone study Othello Gatsby and Pre 1900 poetry for this paper? Currently predicting Cassio or Emilia for the first question but unsure about Gatsby. Any thoughts?

I do , I’m not quite sure apparently last years was about iagos and othellos relationship so I don’t think it will be one either of them

iago has came up majority of the times in the first question so definitely look at a act with him and i’m not sure about question 2

Reply 6

it was ‘female characters are innocent victims of male power.’ or ‘Explore the significance of reputation to the tragedy of Othello’

Hoping it's not Bianca with someone else seeing as they've done supporting characters in the past

Does anyone study the Rebecca novel, if so does anyone have any predictions for the question, and for the Othello I feel like the question would be focused on the women like Bianca or Emilia, since it was mainly about male relationships before like iagos and othellos bond? but maybe im juss completely wrong i rlly don’t know

My teacher is convinced that Cassio/Bianca could come up as they have never before and we have had all the other minor characters so far. For Gatsby the themes seem to be alternate wordings or some sort of barrier/seperation, endurance, desire/fulfilment so those three themes i'd focus on (only outliar being 'society')

i really hope cassio or bianca do not come up :") praying for desdemona or iago

I don't think there has been a question on female friendship for Othello - hopefully that could come up, but idk bcos a supporting characters question hasn't come up since like 2019 with brabantio and Roderigo. I really hope CASSIO AND BIANCA DO NOT COME UP

Hi does anyone know the 2023 questions for Othello and Gatsby?? just trying to figure out what's come up previously to create a specific focus, I have a feeling jealousy/ threats to love could come up for Othello (if they didn't come up last year) and obsessive/ isolated/ unrequited love for Gatsby.

My mock was the 2023 paper. I'll reply with the questions. My teacher is predicting a question relating to love over time

In the meantime, here is a grid of themes if anyone does pre-1900 poetry:

2023 questions (I'll write it vaguely since the paper is still locked)

Othello:

'Insert critical quote about Othello's relationship with Iago being stronger than his relationship with Desdemona'

presentation of Othello and Iago's relationship throughout the play

extract from Act 3, Scene 3

Unseen Poetry

significance of separation

Comparing Texts (Gatsby and poems)

compatibility of lovers

conflict between lovers
