Do you have any tips for revising?

Honestly, i've just been going over some quote flashcards and doing very simple essay plans. It feels like im not doing a lot for english but I have no idea how else i'm meant to revise!

Icl I’m pretty much doing the same, going over quotes and making essay plans, but I would say to perhaps answer the questions in exam conditions and time yourself, then give it to your teacher for them to mark?

English is literally that one subject I tend to neglect 😭are you going over any critics? They’re good to implement into your essays.

Sorry about replys, dont often check on here.

Timed essays sound good, even if boring. I'm sort of the same, I dont really tend to revise English and have gotten away with winging it a lot of the time.

And yeah, I will look at Critics, thats a good idea. Thanks!

Hey, I am doing Othello and I am curious what people's predictions are for the questions this year. My teachers seem to be absolutely stumped and told me to be prepared for anything ! Not exactly the response I was hoping for. Some people have suggested a question on RODERIGO could come up (please no) but I am pretty lost too in all honesty.

Hi

Anyone doing King Lear or Steetcar? Any predictions and notes would be nice. I’m hearing sound/music for Streetcar may be a possibility 😶*🌫️

Does anyone have any predictions for King lear or section C?

guys for aqa do you need critics? my teachers have always said you don't and there's nothing about critics on the mark schemes or examiners' comments but I still see people say that they should be used. and if you do use them what assessment objective do they hit?

hi, i definitely don’t have an objective answer for you, but i do aqa and have always tried to integrate critical perspectives to hit ao5, but only if it doesnt detract from my argument and it can be really fluidly written in. if that makes sense?

No, I took the exam about six years ago and one of the mistakes I made was going overboard on critics. I have looked at all the examiner reports since then. I am studying education at uni, so this stuff is interesting to me. Critics are often used in other exam boards. AO5 is 3/25 marks and comes from your own interpretation. If you do use critics, either use ideas from the critical anthology or have a specific critic who has a broad interpretation to cover your bases. Miller's Tragedy and the Common Essay is helpful. I would use many for Section C, but maybe it may be good for Shakespeare.

FR I just hope they don't come out with a disgusting question on Roderigo etc. Also for section A, what are you predicting? There's a chance it could be act 4, but considering how odd it was repeating Act 1 last year, its so hard to predict anything

heyy Iago hasn't come up for years, and also I doubt anything about cassio or Rodrigo would come up due to theres only so much that can be said about them as well as it being veryyy specific! but still revise it theyre deffo just gonna be evil so just prepare all. I think the extract might be a Desdemona and Emilia scene???

UGHHH act 4, scene 3 would be BEAUTIFULLLL. Lets manifest it. The extract question can go one of two ways; fabulous or completely catastrophic, if I were in last years cohort with act 1, scene 1, I would have rioted in the streets.

I think there's a good chance it will be an Iago question, something about him as a tragic villain or if he was justified in what he did. I think there is enough to say about Cassio, but a Roderigo question would surely end up forcing a discussion about Iago's influence over him. Regardless of the question, I think there's always something to say about Iago.

The extract is almost definitely going to be a scene from the end of the play, every recent exam has been focused on the start. My guesses are Act 4 Scene 3, or Act 5 Scene 2, Desdemona and Emilia, or the loading of the marriage bed. Later extracts are easier to talk about imo, culmination of tragedy, Aristotle and catastrophe, juxtaposition with the love at the start of the play.

AQA please be nice to us 🙏🙏

edit: Cassio question in 2020, so quite unlikely to see him this year. Here are all the questions that have appeared on recent papers:

2023 Emilia/women and Reputation
2022 Othello's pride and Marriage
2021 Desdemona as an innocent tragic victim and Othello's background
2020 Theme of love and Cassio as innocent
