How do the shared bathroom campus rooms look like? Are they in the pyramids?

Yes they are in the pyramids.

How do they look? Urm fine i suppose - they're not huge (i estimate ~ 8 x 12ft), which is very slightly smaller than the Ensuite rooms (by about a sq. ft) They are all SE, S or SW facing, so you're going to get sunshine in your room at some point. Whereas at the Ensuite rooms, you either face north OR south. Plus all the building work is happening at that end of the campus.

The bathrooms at the Shared blocks all have power showers  Plus you get a sink in your own room to brush your teeth, wash your face etc.

They look a lot more socialble then the Ensuite accomodation IMO. The bathroom in the Ensuite rooms arn't huge, plus the shower heads are really low  - i'm 5' 10, and even i would have to crouch down to fit under them

I'm not interested in the shared bathrooms. Not comfortable with sharing toilets etc. I just want to know if the accommodation is comfortable or cramped....

Well what are you going to do in the 2nd year when you share a house, and have no choice but to share bathrooms?

The ensuite rooms are modern and clean but not huge. The kitchen leaves a lot to be desired

Not that well-equiped , plus it was quite small considering the number of people in the flat
Tbh, it's a lot like any other uni - none of the rooms are huge, but they're all liveable. I live in the Village - ensuite for less of the price on campus - and my room is decent - the desk is nice and long with plenty of shelf space above and there's quite a large wardrobe and a couple of drawers. Bathroom is literally just big enough for shower, toilet and sink but don't know what else you'd really want in there. Only think I find is that the floor gets soaking when you have a shower but I believe it's the same on campus.

Our kitchen isn't amazing, but that's mainly because we're a messy flat. I think the village ones are a bit nicer than the campus ones - there's something kind of metal and sterile about the campus kitchens to me.
Does anyone know the flat sizes in different accommodations at UEA?

For instance, how many people share a kitchen in each of the different accommodations (Student Village, the ziggurat buildings, other campus accommodations)?

Cheeeeers!

Norfolk & Suffolk - 12 -14
Campus - 8-12
Village - 6-8

Hi - does anybody know if UEA is your firm offer and your offer is unconditional if when accomodation opens in May it is first come first serve and is allocated on that basis rather than waiting till August like conditional students?

I know this not may help a great deal, but when i applied to sheffield last year, thats what they did:

UC firmers were given top priority 2 weeks before the rest of applicants were left to pick through what was left.

I need to email the accomodation people at UEA anyway, so i'll ask them that too and get back to you ok ?

What course have you applied for?

Ah cool. They just got back to me:

"With regards to your enquiry about an unconditional offer, it won't really have a significant effect on your chances of accommodation. You are guaranteed accommodation providing you are a first year undergraduate, living more than 12 miles from UEA and applying before the deadline (31st August)."

So no, unfortunatly :frown:
When approximately is the application form for accommodation going to be ready?

Hi, i'm trying to decide on accomodation for September 2010. I know i definitely want ensuite so it's between the village and campus ensuite. I'm tempted to put the village as my first choice cause it's a bit cheaper and a short walk to campus really wouldn't bother me.

However some of the discussions i've read about the village on here have put some doubts in my mind. I'll be 19 when i go and i'm up for a lot of socialising and nights out and i'm a bit worried it might be quieter than the campus accomodation.

Is there any current students who can tell me what the atmosphere is like at the village and what type of students mostly live there?

Thanks
I think I'll be going for the village, too, mainly because it is slightly cheaper and there are less people in a flat (I think?), and so seems to be generally quieter overall. At least, that's my impression from reading around the forums, so I'll be dittoing Elle in being interested to hear opinions and thoughts on the village accomodation from current students. Am I right in thinking it is quieter?
I live in the village and believe me, it's not the quiet place other people (i.e those who live on campus and don't really have a clue) make it out to be. The people living in the Village are fairly typical students, who enjoy a night out as much as most other people. I'm not saying it's unbelievably noisy and generally you're spared the sound of people coming back from the LCR that you might get if you lived in some of the places in the centre of campus. You'll find plenty of people up for going out if you are, but it is a little quieter in terms of if you do want a night in, you're not going to be disturbed.

We have a longer walk to the LCR, but that doesn't stop people, and you can get a taxi between four into town for £1.50 each (cheaper than the bus if you don't have a pass). One of the best things I have found is that because most of the Village (minus the courtyards) is split into 'houses' which are smaller than the campus buildings, when you go out, especially in Freshers Week, huge groups go out all from one house.

Flats are generally 6/8 people. I love having my own bathroom and I;m glad I'm getting it for a slightly lower price. Tbh, I don't find the walk to campus that bad. You only need to leave ten minutes to get there and my waking up time is getting gradually later and later as the year has gone on.

We also have fewer fire alarms! In fact, other than one drill in September, and the five second 'test' they do every Tuesday (wihch you don't have to evacuate for) ours has never been set off accidentally or on purpose. *knock on wood*

If you wanted to see pictures, I think I posted some a page or two back in this thread. I love the village - I tend to get rather protective of it when people ask lol, but it really is exactly what I wanted from my first year accommodation.

EDIT: I lie about the photos. I know I've posted them, but who knows where. I'll find them and put them in this thread since it'll probably be more use.

EDIT2: I found the photos in the Pros and Cons of UEA thread, but more people are likely to see them here if they want accommodation info so I'll add them in.
