either phone orange customer services or keep trying, remove the sim, put it back in and try again, or try rubbing the chip on the sim/the area where it goes incase there is any dirt preventing it being read. By SIM registration im guessing this is the operator not your handsets fault, if it is a Pay and Go SIM usually you have to register it first..have you done this? I had a nightmare a few years back with an Orange SIM registering it, but customer services sorted it for me in the end...hope you get it sorted

How old is the sim?
They have to be registered by a certain date or they are unusable

Yeah, sounds like your Orange SIM has become unregistered. Call them and see what they hath to say.
