NMC withdraws midwifery programme accreditation

CCCU has had their accreditation to run midwifery programmes withdrawn by the NMC. The NMC say this has been done because of concerns due to safety and quality and that the decision was made "in the best interests of women, babies and their families".

This will have left many students in complete limbo, as any current courses now will not lead to registration with the NMC as of May 10th.

This is all a bit of a mess, it's devastating for current students, but also leaves the university in a huge pickle with sorting out this mess, will probably have an impact on their funding and also their reputation as a healthcare course provider.

What are people's thoughts? Anyone studying there at the moment?

That's shocking news about the way that they are treating the students midwife's especially those who are about to qualify like.
I hope that the students get together and fight there case with things as they deserve better than being badly let down by the university and the NMC.

There has been lots of bad publicity in recent years with things regarding nursing in certain health trusts in England but yet the NMC never done anything like what they are doing with CCCU which is totally unfair.

I don’t think this is a decision the NMC have taken lightly and going by their reports on it there have been issues for a while there: https://www.nmc.org.uk/news/news-and-updates/nmc-withdraws-approval-of-midwifery-programme-in-interest-of-safety/

Apologies for the late reply 😞

Yes it looks like the NMC haven't taken it lightly but if there has been issues regarding this matter for a while then can understand the reasons for withdrawing the program.
Hopefully the students will find a alternative university very quickly so that they can continue with there studies..!!

It's a disgrace how they are treating the students as perhaps they should have found alternative for the students while they were still giving them the chance to improve things.......

It isn't disgraceful at all. The NMC have been involved in this for a long time and warned it was on the cards for a long time. The people at fault here are the university and staff. The NMC are working to find places for students at other universities.

What would be disgraceful is graduating students who are not properly trained.

Alternatives are being discussed, other unis taking on current students etc. Placements looking to keep the students they have aswell.

its what we ae paying the nmc for. the course must have been failing to meet the nmc rules. they act for public safety, professional standards and the future midwives. i feel fo the students but it had to happen.
