does anyone know how to say 'a protection cap'? This is a sheet of metal that is installed in the ground to protect tourists in caves from falling rocks... the best I can come up with is 'un chapiteau de protection', but it really doesn't seem right...

if anone has any ideas.... this is for my AS oral btw
thankyou!

Un plafond d'acier / en acier (?) = a steel ceiling

I can't imagine how this works if it's set into the ground, so the examiner might well feel the same way. Why don't you explain it rather than trying to translate it?

If you're trying to make some kind of environmental point (they're destroying the caves at Lascaux, by installing metal sheets, just so tourists don't bang their heads...) Then say it!

On a installé des plaques d'acier pour que les touristes ne se cognent pas la tête. / pour empêcher les chutes de pierres/ rochers. Ces plaques ont complètement détruit l'effet, l'ambiance, etc.

Is this the point you want to make?
