Boney M. - Nightflight to Venus

Nightflight to Venus - tolerable intro. Is the percussion from Rasputin?

Rasputin - it is. Obviously a brilliant track :yy:

Painter Man - good

He Was a Steppenwolf - not bad

King of the Road - love this song

Rivers of Babylon - nice

Voodoonight - Great

Brown Girl in the Ring - okay

Never Change Lovers in the Middle of the Night - good

Heart of Gold - really nice

Pretty good. 8/10
Bumping in hopes of a tie-breaking poll vote! :bump: ...though with risk of it becoming a four or five way tie. :ahee:

Always accepting new participants and/or album recommendations, too! :blow:

I mean there has been a significant lack of jazz this thread...

Yeah, Gregory Porter was quite a while ago! I've liked most jazz that I've listened to in passing, or as background music in other media, but that's about all the exposure I've had to it.
A tie, so we'll go with the one that happens to be higher up on the poll order:

Album #90

John Coltrane - Blue Train

Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/2Z11cXWEa2qqYQBGkJrCga

Billie Holiday - Lady in Satin will be next, and I'll add Peggy Lee - Black Coffee to the backlog.
John Coltrain - Blue Trane

I saw there were only 5 songs on here and was like "oh, a short one" and then realised they're all about 10 minutes

Blue Train - A little busy and unstructured for me (I guess that's kinda what Jazz is), but got better. Alright.

Moment's Notice - Didn't notice this one starting, but it sounds pretty much the same as the first. Pleasant background music.

Locomotion - Also quite similar to the previous two.

I'm Old Fashioned - Slower, nicest so far :yy:

Lazy Bird - Like the first three.

5/10. A bit samey (might just be that I don't listen to enough Jazz), too chaotic for background music imo.
John Coltrane:

Blue Train - Nice. I'm also used to more of a predictable structure from music, but it sounded good. :yy:

Moment's Notice - Love the energy in this one! :yy::yy: Not often you hear a bass solo. :zomg:

Locomotion - The drums at around the 5:36 mark were the highlight. Liked the outro, too. :yy:

I'm Old Fashioned - Slower, very easy to listen to. :yy:

Lazy Bird - Solid. :yy:

6/10 from me, which almost certainly doesn't do the album justice, but long and unpredictable instrumentals aren't something I'm used to. Very pleasant to have on in the background, though.

I see what you did there. :mmm:
Can we also add All About Eve (self-titled) to the list? ty

Added. :yy:
I quite liked Blue Train even if I only had it on in the background. A lot more easy listening than Ascension (hard to think there's just nine years between the two). With other songs we've heard I always like a nice jam session so this was more up my street.
8/10

I'm glad at least one of mine is still up there. :yay:
Billie Holiday - Lady in Satin

I’m a Fool to Want You - Simply amazing. :yy:

For Heaven’s Sake - Nice. :yy:

You Don’t Know What Love Is - Also good. :yy: Slightly samey, though.

I Get Along Without You Very Well - Bittersweet. :yy:

For All We Know - Love it. :yy:

Violets for Your Furs - A bit dated.

You’ve Changed - Yeah, very samey by this point.

It’s Easy to Remember - Alright.

But Beautiful - Pleasant enough.

Glad to Be Unhappy - Okay, this one had more interesting lyrics. :yy:

I’ll Be Around - Very reminiscent of the others.

The End of a Love Affair - A nice ending. :yy:

7/10. Fantastic vocals, nice orchestral music, but not much variation in style or theme.
Billie Holiday - Lady in Satin

Not sure. Didn't really like her voice, and there's not much else going on. A bit slow as well. Grew on me toward the end, though. 5/10
Cream - Disraeli Gears

Not bad. Not sure about some of them though, 7/10
Billie Holiday - Lady In Satin

I was in the process of making a song-by-song review but I couldn't really distinguish between them. They're all nice to listen to but a bit boring collectively.
Very powerful vocal performance all around even if she had lost some of her voice by that point in her life.
6/10
Cream - Disraeli Gears

Strange Brew - quite nice

Sunshine Of Your Love - iconic and deservedly so

World Of Pain - quite nice

Dance The Night Away - very nice

Blue Condition - more bluesy

Tales Of Brave Ulysses - excellent

SWLABR - excellent

We're Going Wrong - pretty nice

Outside Woman Blues - really good, especially love the instrumental

Take It Back - and good

Mother's Lament - "boiby"

Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker, name a more iconic trio, I'll wait :ahee:
