IBM 2011 Industrial Placement Scheme

Hello all,

I thought I'd start a new thread on this, despite some earlier threads for other years intake.

Has anyone else applied, and been successful on the assessment centres, or been invited to one? Which placement did you go for? Etc. I'd like to hear other people's experiences of the application process.

Also, has anyone been made an offer? I passed the online application, IPATO test, and the assessment centre and I had a telephone interview for a Marketing placement last week. I'm checking my emails constantly for any correspondence, but none as of yet.

Didn't get the one I wanted, but I got another interview, this time in Portsmouth and face to face!

The assessment centre was cool, not that pressured, just relax and be yourself!

I've got a marketing placement with them for '11 .

I've applied, passed the online test and now have an assessment day in Portsmouth mid January - trawling over the internet it seems to me that most of the things done during assessment days are to see how you work with groups? Can anyone confirm that?

I had two interviews and two group tasks . There were three people observing and they take a lot of notes so I guess they do place a lot of importance on them.

Yeah, make sure you read up on them and have good reasons for wanting to work for them - read up on pretty 'niche' info (like I spoke about their ethical stances and work with LGBT etc). Prove that you've not just read what's on their website/wiki but have a genuine interest in the company. They give you a pretty indepth introduction to the company at the start so don't worry too much about specific facts and figures, they're looking for more than that. Also make sure you speak up and get really involved in the group tasks (just don't take over too much or talk over people).

Hi all,

I've written a comprehensive guide to applying from filling out the CV template to organising your finances and place to live once you get there.

I wanted more information when I was applying and couldn't find it, so I hope this helps people.

The post covers:

- General information
- Salary/pay/tax
- Recruitment process
- Aptitude Test
- Assessment Centre
- Matching
- What happens during the placement
- Costs/finances

It's here, at my blog, if you want to see it.

All comments are welcome and if anybody wants me to add anything else, just say and I'd be happy to.
