MA in Publishing at UCL - HELP!

Scroll to see replies

Hate to post again, but I've just looked again at the UCL wesbite...and am really stressed.

Apparently the deadline for the course I'm applying to is 1st March (!), even though there's no reference to this on the department website. For some reason I thought the 1st March was the deadline for funding (as is the case with other courses).

I'm in a position to submit my application, BUT I seriously doubt my referees will turn around references in less than 2 weeks, considering they've both asked to see my application forms and other information which I haven't yet provided them with as I'm awaiting scans.
If my referees don't submit the references by 1st March, will I be disqualified from being considered for the course? Should I email the admissions office?

Unfortunatelly you d be disqualified, but why are you afraid so much? There are 2 more weeks ahead. And what do you mean that you need to provide them other information (to your referees) and that you are awaiting scans?

Okay, I just emailed admissions for confirmation.

My referees both wanted to see my complete application (so personal statement etc), and some previous essays that I'd submitted from them(with scanned essay cover sheets).

Ugh, this is a disaster. I swear that this wasn't made particularly visible, as I know I've looked at that page before and it didn't stipulate a 1st March deadline. In fact, I saw this course advertised in August 2011 for September 2011 intake...

hm....I think the best thing to do is to phone them and ask. Also, your referees are humans and all you have to do is explain to them the problem. I am sure they'll do their best to do it in time.

Just e-mail (or better call) your referees and explain them your situation and that you are in a hurry.
Also I still don't understand why you haven't already send them (to the referees) the things they asked you for since you have them ready by now (personal statement, etc...)
Okay, thanks for your advice.

The referees only asked for them this week, and I'm having a little bit of difficulty sourcing hard copies of essays since they're at home (I haven't been able to go back home to find them) - hence why I'm delayed in this process.

Hm, since I am non-UK student I did not even think about it. Oh wow, March... :s-smilie:
Is it easy in fact to find a internship in neuroscience/psychology in the US without being resident - some ads I have checked mention that they cannot accept non-residents.

I had to wait a long time to get a specialist work visa, much longer than normal, because Immigration messed up and "misfiled" my application, but I went through a recruitment agency that specialised in finding psych grads to come work in mental health over here. The recruitment company doesn't exist any more. As far as I know if you want to work in the states you'd need to get an employer to sponsor a visa for you, and it's a bit of a commitment!

And yeah, I think you should hear back soon. Let me know how you get on, would be good to kinda know someone before we all start the masters.
I got my official letter in the mail over the weekend and it says they want to hear back within 4 weeks. I am still waiting to hear back from LSE and probably won't hear from them by then and was wondering what others have done in the same situation. I emailed UCL to ask them personally but still haven't heard back nearly a week later (I emailed them asking if it was truly 4 weeks before I had confirmation from my letter).

I was in the same situation back in December so I accepted the offer but will soon withdraw as I have received an offer from Oxford in the meanwhile and I am still waiting to hear back from Cambridge. So you can accept the offer and withdraw later. They know this happens and give out more offers than places precisely for this reason.

Congratulations, what program did you apply for?
And why will you decline for KCL?
For anyone else wondering, I emailed UCL about the 4 week deadline and here are their words exactly- "Thank you for your email. We do include a four-week deadline on all standard offer letters but this is not a strict deadline as we hold offers open until the start of the programme." So it looks like it isn't a big deal at all.

I'll be going into KCL's War Studies dept which I can't possibly turn down (plus I've already paid the deposit )
Have you received an offer?

Good luck with your studies at KCL then
No, but I've been waiting for one to be received soon.
However I have offers from other unis like Imperial, LSE, Warwick, Lancaster....
(and will receive decisions from Oxbridge during March/April)

Hi,

I applied to UCL a few weeks ago and have access to Portico. The email, which said I had access to the site, said I could track my application, change my contact details and see the status of my references. I know that both of my references have been sent, but there is nothing on the portico page to say they are there. Just under 'active applications' is the course I have applied for?

Any ideas?

Also, I cannot click on anything under "active applications". Did peoples portico access or status things change over time?

Thanks

There should be a 'view' button under the Active Applications bit. Click on that and you'll be on the Programme Home Page. At the top, there's a bit which says 'Referees' which will allow you to see whether or not your references have been uploaded. You can also view your application form on the Programme Home Page.
Hi everyone,

I was invited to the informal interview of Msc Technology Entrepreneurship of MSI department. Has anyone had an experience on this.

How long do you guys have to wait before the result comes. Do they normally do this as a standard or for the potential applicant.

Please share if you have experience on this as I really want to take this course.

Thank you !
