UEA Accommodation

Hello! I am a deferred entry applicant from last year so I definitely have a place at UEA for 2012! :biggrin:

I was just wondering what situation I'm in in terms of choosing accommodation? For instance am I allocated a place straight away or will my accommodation application be dealt with alongside those with conditional offers?

We would hope that you would be in one of the first groups that we allocate. Normally this process begins in around late June/early July so make sure you have applied for your room by then.

Hi there I just have a few qs about accommodation!

I'm from Ireland and have been accepted at UEA. I'm about 98% sure that I'm going to make it my firm choice but I'm just trying to reseach all my other offers first before I do anything definite!

When would it be best to start applying for accom? I was looking at the halls that are on campus, Colman's etc What are the chances of getting a place there? They look super nice I'd say they are really popular?

I don't want to accept anywhere just yet but am starting to worry about the accom!

Don't worry about the accommodatino until you have decided which uni you are going to go to!

When you do choose UEA as your firm choice (why would you want to go anywhere else!) and let UCAS know you will then be able to apply for your room. We have really only just opened the application form online so there is nothing to worry about. We also don't allocated rooms on a first come first served basis so it makes no difference if you apply now or just before you get your results. You will have exactly the same chance fo the type of room you want as everyone else.

Just to let you know we actually have more of the ensuite rooms that you mention than any other type so in you case I would think that is good news.

Firstly, you said you were 98% sure you would come here.
We have bunnies. Lots and lots of bunnies. Surely that's worth 2%?

In my opinion, Norfolk terrace is the place to be. We have AMAZING views over the lake. Always nice to wake up and see green woodland and a nice sunny lake, rather than concrete.
Norfolk/suffolk terrace is "the party place". If you aren't a party person, don't worry, people tend to be quiet on weekdays, it just means that you actually see your flatmates, who will invariably be lovely. When i've visited other places, particularly the village, you get a lot more awkward people there, and as a result your flat just does not feel very friendly.
The other thing people worry about is the shared bathrooms/toilets.
I really mean it when i say they are a lot nicer than the "pods" in the ensuite accommodation. They get cleaned and restocked with loo roll daily, they are never all full. The rooms are much bigger than the pods too.

Everyone I know wish they had applied to live in norfolk terrace, some of them haven't even met all their flatmates yet, as some are still hiding in their rooms. It makes it so much more fun having a "social" flat, as you meet a lot more people, most of whom are lovely, and spend less time trapped inside your room.

I love your point about the bunnies.

But I would like to add that most campus ensuite flats have been pretty social, athough there have been one or two people you dont see in each flat.

I saw a bunny yesterday on my way to my seminar by the security lodge that was tiny, it was soooo cute! I wanted to steal it.

Everyone is social in my flat (village), but there is the stereotypical antisocial flatmates in the flat next door, so the social ones are always here.
My coursemate and I were sitting outside near the lake on Tuesday. So jealous that you guys in the ziggurats get that view daily! Always say that when I come out of the front ENV entrance as well.

I loved my pod! It was surprisingly non-annoying, just made things more convenient :smile:

As makingamemory mentioned, though the village may generally have a few 'quieter' people (probably due to it's reputation), there is still a real mix and at the end of the day it varies each year and the majority of students love socialising, so it's unlikely to be an issue in any halls. People seem to hang out in each others flats a bit more in the village than say en-suite campus.

Honestly I don't know anyone who didn't really enjoy the accommodation they got put in in the end- that's the beauty of UEA; they are well balanced and fair, so you're never left with anything really bad.

I LOVE bunnies :colondollar:

I have to say I am pretty much set on UEA I loved it when I visited, the only thing I worried about was that it seemed a bit small, Norwich itself I mean. But everyone seems to love their experience there so I really have been convinced it will be amazing :smile:

I am most definitely interested in a party atmosphere hehe so that won't be a problem for me an I really am keen to interact and socialise with whoever my housemates will be. I'd be devestated if I ended up in halls where everyone just stays in their room! Couldn't be dealing with that.

I have to say though having the ensuite really is swaying me. I hate the idea of sharing bathrooms :redface:

Are the ensuite onc ampus ones really that bad? Is Norfolk terrace the zigurat things that everyone talks about ?

Also does anyone know why Med/AHP students have their own accomodation page?

I myself lived in ensuite accomodation last year, but a lot of my friends were in the terraces and didn't find the shared bathrooms problematic at all. There was rarely a queue for the showers since people were in uni different times of the day, some people showered in the morning, some in the evening etc. Plus there's a big sink in the rooms if worse comes to worst! Not being ensuite is incredibly useful for flat parties though, having people traipsing in and out of your room to use the loo is pretty annoying :p:

I don't know anybody who didn't enjoy their time in halls though, regardless of where they ended up.

Med and AHP have a different page as your halls contract is longer than everyone elses due to your course being longer.

I'm in campus ensuite and personally I love it my room is a great size, its so handy being on campus and having my bathroom right next to me. And it is social, I've only met one person who had flatmates that didn't like to go out.

and coming from london i was worried at first that norwich would be too small but honestly it isnt. its the perfect size for a student- small enough to make it easy to find your way around but big enough that its got everything you need- the usual chain shops, independants, lots of restaurants and cafes and pubs and clubs. and its all in one place, you don't need to get 2 buses.

You do get a huge sink in your room in norfolk terrace, and you get brilliant views, unlike the other accommodation where you stare at concrete mostly.

Oh come on. The Village is not that bad. I always thought that photo was the wrong way round - people living in the village tend to be very happy there and realise that it's only a few minutes walk to campus - it's people living on campus that seem to go on about how far away it is.

Different people like different types of accommodation and they all have pluses and minuses - I don't think there is any genuinely bad accommodation at UEA.

the view from most of the accomodation just looks out to other halls of residence,though if your on the top floor of britten at the front you get a stunning view over parkland and the lake

Shhh, ignore him! :wink:

That photo is seriously around the wrong way, no one moans about the walk if you actually live in the village. It takes like 5mins to get to the square if you walk quickly. It's the lazy people on campus that complain! I'm pretty sure the laziest people I know live in CT(theyre like 2mins from all our classes). When looking for houses they wanted to get a taxi from campus up to one of the side roads off of Wilberforce road.
