It's only a derby because both clubs are big, not because they're near each other.
Disagree, I'm from N.London and I know many more Chelsea fans than Spurs fans for example. It's definitely a heated game, has been for donkeys. Definite derby.

I agree with this. Since 1997, Tottenham have finished above us once in the league. I'd say United were Arsenal's main rivals, but they've kind of fallen off. Over the past 20 years, Chelsea and Arsenal have been at a similar level in terms of league position (Arsenal having the upper-hand for the first 10 years, us for the second part).
I feel that when Tottenham and Arsenal play, it's for the pride of North London. When Chelsea and Arsenal play, it's for the pride in London. Stakes are just that bit higher

The NLD is important because it's always been important tbf. These days the vast majority of match going Spurs/Arsenal fans dont even live near the stadiums so it's sort of become a traditional rivalry more than anything. As I say, I grew up near Highbury and honestly can count the number of Spurs fans I know personally on 2 hands. Know about 50 Chelsea fans tho.
Chelsea is a bigger game and personally I have to say I enjoy beating you lot more than Spurs any day of the week!

To be fair,as much as I dislike Arsenal (from a rival's perspective, not absolute), what idiot would choose to support Spurs over Arsenal if they live near Arsenal's (former) stadium?

Yea but I went to primary school in Highgate, used to play football on Hackney Marshes/Muswell Hill which you would expect to be 50/50 AFC/THFC in terms of territory and I pretty much never encountered Spurs fans anywhere. They just didnt seem to be around
As far as I can see, most young Spurs fans are from the suburbs of London who have parents who moved out from inner North London and just follow their dads team. All of the Spurs fans I went to school with were like that.
