Islamic school police stand-off

The ex- chairman governor of an Islamic school has provoked a stand-off with police and the local council by unlawfully hiring unauthorised security guards to close off the school to government officials.

He does not agree with the Department of Education decision to dismiss him and the Board of Governors for gross incompetence and financial mismanagement, and is using physical force to resist the lawful change of management.

It appears the former Chairman, Waseem Yaqub, has not adapted to the customs and laws of his new country, and is operating according to the mores of where he has come from; that is, that if you disagree with a government decision, you can use physical force rather than the ballot box.

This is part of a worrying trend of Islamic schools using force and intimidation to block lawful investigations by state authorities, and this Mr Yaqub is heavily linked to the "Operation Trojan" group that has been targeting state schools in the area. These people appear to have little to no respect for the rule of law, and the customs and traditions of the country they have moved to, and simply demand to be able to compel Britain to accede to their demands.

That's just taking it too far, they should be closed down.
If there ever needed to be an argument for banning faith schools, this is it. Though all the Christian schools I've been to are fine... only faith schools shoukd be Church of England :smile:

I don't see anything wrong with Islamic schools as we allow catholic and Christian schools, but when they disobey the law they're basically taking away their own privileges.

At the Olive Tree Primary School a week ago, the parents (under direction from the teachers) chased Ofsted inspectors away from the school after the inspectors probed to determine whether the school was teaching homophobic prejudice to the children. Following that schools physical obstruction of Ofsted officials, a report revealed that this primary school's library was stocked with books that advocated the stoning of women!

Fair enough, this is pretty bad. But it does seem prejudiced to stop Islam schools because of a minority of extremist cases, so for fairness' sake I think we should close all faith schools. They aren't good for anything except causing this sort of tension.

What's extraordinary is that even in the most slam-dunk cases of extreme Islamic fundamentalism being preached in schools, of anti-gay bigotry and the stoning of women being taught to children, of financial mismanagement and the utterly justified sacking of the board of governors by Ofsted, some people have accused me of being "anti-Islamic", a "bigot" and a "BNP member" merely for raising it.

Tbh, if the mainstream of Islam is going to defend an absolute lost cause and indefensible case like this one, they are going to profoundly damage their credibility

Although there are many Islamic schools that do break the law, not ALL of them do it. They should shut down the ones that break the law and allow the law abiding ones to continue.

Muslims make up a tiny percentage of the population yet we are constantly hearing about Islamic schools teaching violence, hate and bullying non muslim staff etc etc.

i believe that this scratches the surface only and muslims schools should be abolished

That's because the Church of England doesn't really take belief very seriously any more. They were put in their place years (centuries) ago.

Why should only church of England schools be allowed?; You've never been to any Muslim or Hindu or Sikh schools, so why are you judging them. If anything this is the government's fault for allowing this crazy person to be installed into this position. Bad thing's happen regardless of religion such as:

Don't you think its the government's fault after all they were awarded outstanding by ofsted. Worrying trend ... proof one or two schools does not make a "trend".
