why are atos even assessing me?

My psychiatrist, who is an expert on my case and is obviously intelligent and knowledgeable about mental health, has said to me that he thinks there are significant medical grounds for me not to be working right now, and written this in my notes, which were sent along to the pip assessors.

But I've been called up for an assessment with an atos healthcare professional...probably a ****ing nurse. Nothing wrong with nurses but I'd say a psychiatrist who has spent hours over the last year with me and read my notes in detail is better qualified to make a judgement on my fitness to work.

It makes me so ****ing angry...at times I think I should just die so that the bastards get more bad press. But then I think about all my positive attributes compared.to these scum and the possibility of a future beyond being a statistic.

Scummy bastards. I'm a bright guy but am unfortunate enough to have serious health issues. Iain duncan smith is a stupid ****. Seen his work and education history or the **** ass novel he wrote?

You can guess how crap his novel is from the blurb.

What makes it worse is that my parents seem to support the cuts and vote conservative. ****ing toxic living with them. I try to show them what's happening but they just grumble stupidly and vaguely about the British having a bad attitude to success and the workshy.

Always good to get a second opinion.

I know you're trollin but why should a nurse who has just me me have an opinion which carries more weight than my psychiatrist? If nurses are such magical creatures in psychiatry, why do we even bother training psychiatrists up?
Asd is typical with the ill informed ranting with regard to ESA functional assessments and PIP functional assessments , it appears the OP is starting from an erroneous position.

1. these assessments do NOT chalenge Diagnosis
2. these Assessments do not seek to undermine the Opinion of your GP or specialist

however

These assessments are supposed to answer a specific set of questions aobut either you ability to work (ESA) or abilities and needs with regard to activities of Daily living (PIP)

The OP seems to assume that Doctors and Nurses do the same job in undertaking assessments for very different reasons,

In some cases GPs and specialists will modify what they say to ensure their patient remains in touch with treatment etc , the use of an external assessment is to try and address the variability this introduces. we've all met Doctors who will happy reach for the sick note pad and sign people off for fairly trivial things and we've also met others who you have to have limbs hanging off before they will issue a sick note ...

and by the way Nurses, Physios and OTs do functional assessments and assessments of activities of daily livign from day 1 week 1 of pre-reg , Doctors don;t becasue the medical model doesn;t deal with this, although modern medical education has realised that the role the bio-psycho-social side of things has above and beyond the pure medical model " there is a fracture I must fix it, the fracture belongs to a bone .... "

To be honest the govt has plunged thousands into my care already with ots, psychiatrists, GPs etc and it has done **** all but make fat on antipsychotics.

I'd be far happier just having some benefits.
They will look at the notes and referral from your psychiatrist and you will be fine. Why have this attitude before even having the meeting? One of my friends had a psychiatric report stating unsuitability for work, they had a meeting with Atos and actually it was highly beneficial. They discovered there was a higher level of support and money available than first thought. If you go in with a tories suck sulky self righteous attitude then make sure you have fun.

Also I feel a ranty style is appropriate when I'm being mistreated and potentially killed.

you really have swallowed the bul**** from the amnesiacs on the left.

PIP and ESA are labour policies , as is the structure of the health assessment prcoesses that are Part of the decision making process.

ATOS or other providers do NOT make the decision.

No argument here, if anything I think you're being far too lenient on him.

I think you're upset the cash stream for sitting at home may be drying up.

If you do have mental health issues, getting involved in society is more likely to sort you out.

Sitting at home moping about hard done by you are is unlikely to get you sorted out.

It's great that you have found a cure for the OP. I expect he will sack his current psychiatrist and hire you.

The OP seems to be more than capable of going online and ranting about something. If they're capable of that, then they're capable of doing some meaningful work.

If everybody who saw a shrink stayed off work then not a lot of work would be done.

As has been already stated, ATOS are there as an Independant assessor. A mere trip to the local supermarket shows the feckless in society signed off as incapable of working. Yet in unite a few cases, including in my own family, a kick up the arse and a job would do them the world of good.

One day people will begin to take mental illnesses seriously.

They already do.

But whinging about having to potentially go back to work isn't exactly pushing the issue forward.

I've worked with many people over the years with a wide range of mental issues. Chronic depression, PTSD, autism, learning difficulties, anxiety disorders and bi polar to name but a few. Notice I say worked with, not known people with them.

All have worked and getting then into jobs they can manage has helped them an awful lot on their road to recovery.

Non of them however grief whore as much as some on here do.

Good on the people you worked/work with.

For some people, managing their mental illness can be made easier by being in the working environment. To me, and apparently you, this makes sense - being with people and doing something is certainly makes me feel good about myself.

However other people don't have the same experience. Work is simply incompatible with their illness. This can be for a variety of issues.

Another group of people will sit in the middle. Some days are good, some days are bad. They will rely on their employer being understanding.

To say, as you did, that the best way for someone suffering mental illness to get better is to just get out there and get on with it is just wrong - and slightly rude, I think. We do not know the OP's circumstances.

And it is not whinging about having to go to work. A lot of people will be very, very nervous. Will they get on at work? Will their employer understand? Will they need to disclose? What will this be like? Will they be judged? Will their employer make adjustments?

There are a whole variety of issues which most people without a mental illness would find rather daunting - let alone someone with a mental illness.

Also, regarding the point about mental illness being taken seriously: I don't think we are quite there yet.

In some cases you are right. Mental health issues aren't compatible with work. In other cases it is.

At the moment the government has introduced a long overdue review of those people who aren't.

Prior to that the system as too open for abuse and taking the easy option of pushing people onto benefits.
