Whether there is contact or not doesn't matter, it's the intent. You can get sent off for going in two footed in the tackle even if you don't touch a player.

Not sure why he did it, but no way is it deserving of a red IMO. The ref saw the player react later than he needed to, which tells him, its not as bad as it seems and they guy is trying to make it look worse than it is. No way is it a straight red, especially when the guy reacted 1-2 seconds later I'm afraid.
