Yes you are, you think there is something wrong with abstinence. Why?

Its physically and socially detrimental to your well being and to those around you. That's a factual, not moral judgement. Learn the difference.

Uh, since when was abstinence from alcohol detrimental to your physical wellbeing? How an earth does it harm people around you? What possible reason is there for that?
Socially, I don't think drinking is necessary either. You can be fun and have fun whether you're drunk or not. People won't hate you/judge you harshly just because you don't drink. That would be like a stoner thinking non-smokers are inferior, I mean it's just utter *******s.

Is this a serious question? I thought there wasn't a human being alive who didn't know that abstinence was physically damaging compared to moderate drinking. Have you spent your entire life in a cave?

Because it helps people socialise. Socialising is a good thing, it bonds communities together. If you haven't noticed, since people have started drinking less we are suffering a loneliness epidemic.

Seriously, you need to get a clue and start thinking about the people around you, because your current thought processes are selfish and naive.

Become a positive member of your community, not just another teetotal leach.
Well after the hangovers and throwing up you say "never again" and you stick to it until the next time you have a night out and you get hammered again an...

......hmm that means I still drink it, DAMN it brain learn some self control.

But day to day I don't drink it cos I like premium fruit juices (single variety apple juices ordered online mainly, still way cheaper than a pint each) more, though both are bad for you...

You may have heard that for some people, drinking within the government’s lower risk guidelines can have protective benefits. However this is not a good reason to start drinking if you haven’t before. “There is evidence to show that drinking small amounts of alcohol (no more than 1-2 units/day) can have protective benefits on the heart especially for over 45 year olds,” says Professor Wallace. “But it’s not a good idea to start drinking for this reason if you are a non-drinker, because any benefits are outweighed by the risks of developing other illnesses, such as liver disease or cancer.

You don't need alcohol to socialise. Also, the optimal number of units per gender would barely affect most people and certainly wouldn't get them drunk. I might get a little tipsy at 3 units, but it doesn't affect my social skills. Alcohol may have some benefits, but only when you drink the recommended limit. Binge-drinking is never healthy.

Look at you, moralising
I am not teetotal, but I don't see how that has much to do with anything. But I think I'll take that ammunition off you, thanks.
Do you seriously think you are superior to others just because of a difference in lifestyle? I for one don't believe that my friends hate my company when I'm sober.. if they did, they'd hardly be friends, would they?

How much work do YOU do in the community?

Answer the question, and then we can compare.

I have no idea what that has to do with what I, or you, were saying.
Lol at not drinking

Aren't you bored of seeing all your friends having a good time on the strip? You say you can have fun without alcohol but when everyone around you is drunk is it not just weird and awkward?

Don't you grow tiresome of the people achieving hedonism by simply engorging in the delicious elixir that is alcohol.

Have you ever let yourself loose and tried it? Being drunk can be really fun if moderated and you can still have a great healthy lifestyle.

Recent studies have actually pointed at alcohol being good for your health if consumed in moderation: http://www.psmag.com/health-and-behavior/truth-wont-admit-drinking-healthy-87891

So...... what are you waiting for?

:colone:

No, I'm not bored. I'm having fun too. Not really.

Yeah, I have tried it and I didn't like it or it's affect on my body so I don't drink it any more. A lot of other things are fun.

Probably pseudo-sceince study.

Waiting for people like you to accept the fact that I don't want to drink.

Ok, let's completely ignore the fact that currently, I can't actually drink alcohol due to the medication I'm on:
I don't really like the taste of alcohol. Being drunk isn't, ime, that good. It's a rubbish feeling. I'd rather be in control of what I'm doing. I also have better things to spend my money on.

Alcoholic drinks vary in taste. In your experience, what was so bad about being pissed? Why did it "feel rubbish"?
Sometimes I feel sick after drinkin a shed load but mostly I feel awsome. Im usually hung over on days that are raining or wont be doing sod all anyway.

What other things do you spend your money on? I usually spend my money on petrol, cycle parts and prostitutes (I admit im too ugly to get any otherwise!).

If you want to be in control of what your doing, drive a car!

I seem to remember just wanting to throw up. And I'm sure the room kept spinning. Bleugh. I don't get hungover.

I currently spend my money on going away.

You drank too much.

There is a sweet spot ( a pretty big sweet spot) where you feel happy, relaxed, friendly, sociable, and euphoric, but not yet sick, dizzy, or sleepy.

I don't like the taste. And there seem to be no positive consequences of getting drunk.
(also I'm only 16)

If taken with moderation... studies also pointed out that alcohol creates dependence :u:

Alcohol is bad for memorising things when revising, it's estrogenic, it gets you into bad habits which make it for more than just the occasional binge

Alcohol is fine, the longest lived ever person lived drank their share of red wine.

The problem is (everyone knows) drinking too much. Also a problem is sugary drinks, they actually do more damage (in terms of NHS) than alcohol does.
Some of us watched first hand as an alcoholic destroyed themselves and their family.

In every single job I've had this comes up and people are like ''omg why don't you drink?''. It's no one's business so I tell them that I just don't enjoy the taste (lie) because otherwise the conversation would be killed if I told them the real reason which is that I have a very close family member who was an alcoholic while I was a child and it totally destroyed my childhood and affected my perception of alcohol and people who drink it. I drank in my teens and got drunk like most other young people just to see what it was like - but I stopped completely when I was 18.

Beyond your mid 20's alcohol is used differently than in your teenage to mid twenties. As young people it's mostly used to have fun and loosen up but into adulthood it's used to numb after a stressful day or in general a stressful life. Personally, I think it's a really unhealthy way to de-stress from work or your problems in general and it's a bad crutch. I'd rather exercise than drink to get rid of stress and I know that I share the same genes as my family member and I could quite easily use alcohol as a crutch - I've got a stressful life and problems and for me to drink would be a disaster waiting to happen. I get addicted to anything and everything - chocolate, TV shows, books, puzzles , whatever - that's part of my personality. So I've always avoided alcohol because for me it would be like opening Pandora's Box and I've seen first hand how that can destroy someone and affect the people around them.

So not all of us are just boring people who don't like to have fun - some of us are just preventing the inevitable and stopping history repeating itself. But that's not really a nice light topic of conversation that people like to hear is it?

That's because most have the same metabolic effects of alcohol while not giving the hangover or general stupor when drunk in large amounts due to their having high fructose-corn-syrup contents.

Anyway. I have innumerable reasons for not drinking alcohol. For one I don't believe a police officer should ever take drugs recreationally.
