Hey,

Not answer to your question but, what accommodation are you currently in? Do you know what the premier accommodation option looks like? I would much rather live on campus than off - even if that means paying a little bit extra for a premier!

I'm in my first year living in halls. I'd like to apply to stay in halls for 2nd year but seems like I won't be able to since you only find out if you've got a room in August and I will have to have arranged something definite by then. :/

But just curious, how likely is it that someone applying as a second year would get accomodation? is it very unheard of?

Hey guys! I was thinking of applying for the student village. I've just got the email to apply for accommodation and haven't started my application yet so I was wondering does it matter applying for a house for the student village? e.g. ash house, beech house etc. I'm assuming they are all the same/similar so it won't matter too much will it? are there some that's closer to campus or are they all 10 minutes from campus?

thank you!

Hey, you don't choose the house, you just choose "village". The houses are very similar, all have slight variance in shape and size of flats depending on the building shape/position but they're pretty much the same. From one end of the village to the other it's perhaps a 3 minute walk? So no not really any difference in distance to campus!

Hi I just wanted to know how many bathrooms you have to share in Norfolk/ Suffolk terrace and also I know you have said the max number of people you will live with is 14 but is there a minimum as well? Also a lot of people have said the rooms get really hot but do you get a fan in your room?
Sorry for lots of questions and thanks for your post its really helpful

hey I lived in NT last year so can probably answer most question

fans are provided in rooms, there are 3 toilets- one individual whilst the other 2 have showers
Where has everyone been applying? I don't know whether to go en suite or shared

I put en-suite village first, then campus en-suite, then ziggies, and then the rest with city last. I chose en-suite simply because I'm used to having a bathroom to myself and deciding exactly when i want to shower  and from what I've heard about how disgusting other students are I'd rather have a smaller room. Although the rooms in the ziggurats look amazing, huge windows, beautiful view and everything

Does anyone know how likely it is to get one of your top choices?

I've applied for ziggurats bc the views are amazing and I rly don't mind sharing a shower. I think if you don't mind sharing then go for ziggurats as I've heard they're most social as all rooms are on the same floor and they're closest to everything (good thing for me bc I'm so lazy). But if you care about ensuite then I'd go for that tho, maybe on campus if you're lazy :') also spoke to a few students yesterday who said most people in the village don't seem to enjoy it there, just something to think about

It really does depend on the year. When I was in the village everyone I knew except one guy loved it there! And obviously there are a lot of flats so everyone will have different experiences. The main thing that will make your experience good or bad is who is in your flat, but unfortunately you can't choose or predict that. I've always reasoned that with the village at least you're closely connected with like 5 other flats who generally all spend time together, so you've a higher chance of meeting someone you get along with. Having said that I know someone who spent his time mostly in a neighbouring flat in ensuite campus so maybe its not as hard as it seems to mix there as well!

I was thinking of putting two bedroom unit as one of my top choices. I heard that the flats are placed at the top floor of Nelson Court and Constable Terrace so I was wondering which floor exactly? Climbing is a nightmare for me tbh :frown: Besides how is the kitchen? Is it fully equipped with freezer and microwave or just sink & hobs provided?

Right - so I'm currently in my 1st year at UEA and thought of give some honest advice regrading accomodation.

En Suite campus - (this is what I live in)
pros - own toilet and shower
Cons - small rooms, harder to socialise at beginning

En suite village
pros - own toilet and shower
cons - small rooms, even harder to socialise, a long walk when drunk

standard campus
pros - ?
Cons - rank as ****

ziggs
pros - very sociable, large rooms
cons - shared toilet, not the best looking

city/Mary Chapman

dont even ****ing bother!

Haha thanks you basically confirmed what I thought! Although I haven't seen the standard ones but didn't think they'd be that bad

did they lock the flat doors then? Because the people I was at uni with who lived in the Village all made friends in their block really quickly because they could get into each others flats to say hi.
Can someone give the blunt view of what sharing a bathroom is really like haha?

I've always been used to having my own bathroom but I love the views and social aspect of the ziggs. Are those elements worth sharing a bathroom for?
Village I'd say would trump others as they have proper ovens!

Personally I definitely think so but it depends if you're okay with sharing a bathroom with like 7 other people haha, all down to personal preference

having lived in NT, I can honestly say sharing bathrooms aren't that bad- there's never a queue for showers or otherwise- they are more spacious  they are also cleaned several times a week :yep:

The walk from the LCR - village is the same as it is to Constable Terrace. Or if you're coming from the town, the buses stop just outside the village before they turn into University Drive after midnight (or at least they used to 4 years ago). I wouldn't say socialising was a problem in the village, as Jelly said we could just pop into any flat in our block, also on my course there was always a good group of us walking in and back each day.

The 26 now goes through campus, out by the village to the hospital and then back through campus, all the time. So you can get off nearer the village  Though like you say the walk isn't really far!

Strange question but is there a divide between private school people and state school? At my sister's university all the private school people normally went to one type of accommodation and state school to another. There was quite a lot of tension and the two groups didn’t mix. So I was wondering if it was similar at UEA or if there were any patterns of where people tend to go.

I was ur sister's Uni Bristol by any chance?

UEA has a 12% private schooled population, so I don't think thats gonna be an issue.
