Phlogiston theory

Is there a way to repeat Lavioiser's oxygen experiments safely in a lab (i.e. without using Hg)

Why couldn't you use mercury?

It's toxic, so my college won't let me :/

For a project thing
So, do I have this right that you want to use that experiment in a project to confute this theory in Lavioiser's way?

What about his experiment where he has used iron nails and water vapour? that is not a toxic one.

I was hoping to do more of an oxygen based project, but I could change it I guess. Thank you!
You are welcome. What you need is still a preparation to heat your experiment up to red heat (to cause an oxidation of the nails with water vapour). It seems that you know how to reason and proceed. Fine.
