Can we all reflect on all the good things Islam does for the world?

incorrect - Eratosthenes worked out the world was round in 200 bc and Aryabhata of india worked out in 500 ad the planets circumference to an estimate within 80 km of the correct figure - again neither these had anything to do with islam

But surely if Islam is true Allah made it possible for Eratostenes and Aryabhata to exist in the first place?

You are so right. You couldn't be more right.

What we need to take from today, with commuters murdered, an airport blown up, and blood running in the streets is how awful this all is for Muslims.

I feel like you are being sarcastic

What, 30 people die every couple of minutes. Terrorist attacks are nothing in the scale of things. There are billions of muslims in the world. If the billions of non Muslims start hating on Muslims, that is a very big thing indeed.

A phobia is an irrational fear, but it is not irrational to fear Islam. It is invariably a turbulent minority and an overbearing majority.

Religious minorities, homosexuals, freethinkers and atheists, women who want equal rights... all these people would have much to fear in an Islamic state

Not a genuine Islamic state; you fear the one portrayed in the biased media!

so u believe that jihads are not muslims because they are not peaceful?

Well... pretty much. They kill non-combatants which is forbidden in islam so therefore they are not muslims.
ISIS and the other ba****ds like them are going against the Quran and deserve to rot in hell.

You're both absolutely correct!

Terrorism is equally awful for all civilised Westerners. Then there is more awfulness for the Muslims who fall into that group because they will be the subject of religious hatred, as ISIS desires.

Which btw, were an entirely justified defensive response to around 400 years of Muslim invasions, slave raids, conquests, colonisation, oppression and genocides against the Christian peoples of the Middle East, North Africa and Southern Europe.

Who in turn responded with. A Christian invasion, slavery, conquest, oppression, genocide, rape etc. All in the name of their chosen God. Talk about taking the moral high ground.

What's the point of all this retarded culture war ********? It's quite simple, in stable established empires you get enough surplus capacity for a few people to spend all their time reading books and measuring the curvature of the earth. Both Islam and Christianity, modern atheism and Greco-Roman paganism have had empires and in every one intellectual progress has been made and/or lost knowledge has been regained.

Phobia of any kind is never justified! It is bigotry!

Love trumps hate!

The definition of a phobia is an 'irrational fear' so your statement it technically correct.

well for the past millenia the world has been governed by 'godless' people who refer to themselves as zionists and what good have they done. They've killed and been the cause of more deaths probably since the beginning of mankind. So religion is not the issue.

You clearly don't understand what Zionism is, do you?
Ha ha. I detect a thought-provoking yet sarcastic thread topic. In my view, the question so many people waste time with is not about whether all Muslims are dangerous or demonised. That’s a straw man that keeps one’s eyes off the ball. The important question is whether this political religion's ideology is dangerous? Nobody is blaming all Muslims for the actions of the extremists. However, simply saying “I.S. are not Muslims" and "It has nothing to do with Islam" is denying reality and avoiding a difficult issue. A problem of perception arises when Muslims in the West have been brought up on a sanitized, cherry-picked version of Islam that isn’t supported by the actual content of the Quran and Sunnah. Likewise the young school pupils in Britain who when they study Islam in their RE class are only taught the edited uncontroversial quotes and tenets to fit in with the enforced dogma of social multiculturalism. Whether you have been misinformed or not, the hard fact is that I.S. is very much to do with Islam
I'm surprised that anyone these days still takes the word 'Islamophobia' seriously? I rejected it long ago as the nonsense it is. It's a political term used to silence open discussion through fear of being implied to be a bigot. Yes, it is a scare tactic, that's all. A phobia is an 'irrational' fear. Yet people are NOT irrational if they fear Islam.

its kind of the point of the thread. there has been some sort of assertion at some point during that 'islam gave the world golden age science' - clearly that was just political spin. its only ignorants like yourself that lazily swallowed that line hook line and sinker instead of doing the required reading

Precisely. The progress during the 'Golden Age of Islam' was not a consequence of the faith. If anything, the restrictions placed on the great thinkers of the time were restricted by the blasphemy laws of the period.

Everything will be OK if we learn to love eachother, rather than spreading hatred!

The far right is just as bad as the terrorists, who cause terrorism with their hate filled messages!

the golden age began in persian controlled iran and iraq long before islam in their studying of Greek Plato, Aristotle etc, and the arrival of the arabs and islam somewhat halted that for a time, and later continued but with the requirements for everything to be written in arabic rather than farsee so that they/islam could take credit. Then the arabs destroyed much of what was previously recorded by the persians, which is confirmed by medeival historians like Ibn Khaldun

even post islam, most of the golden age thinkers were muslims of persian origin, continuing their pre-islamic tradition of science. islam brought nothing to the table except the sword.

I know it's hard at times like this, but can't we all reflect on the good things Islam does for the world?

The greatest tragedy with these attacks is the way Islam and it's adherents are demonized because of them.

What are these good things.
