What's the PGCE Primary course like at MMU?

Hey guys!

Could anyone who has done the PGCE Primary course at MMU or knows anything about it please give me some advice.

I've been offered a place on the course but was wondering what it was like? Is it good/ overrated/ bad/ outstanding etc?

Have you had the chance to visit us at one of our Postgraduate Course Fairs? We have current students from the PGCE there who will be happy to answer these questions for you. You will also have the opportunity to chat with the course tutor and take a tour of the campus to decide whether MMU is the best fit for you. :smile:

The next Course Fair is on the 22nd February and you can book a place here.

Thank you for your reply. I have to make my decision by 16th Feb though so unfortunately the fair which I was hoping to attend is past the deadline.

Do you know much about the PGCE Primary school at MMU?

I know quite a few things about the PGCE Primary Education so may be able to answer some of your questions. What is it that you would like to know?

How much lesson/uni lecture time do we get on the foundation subjects and also do you know if every foundation subject is included in that or just a few of them?

On the PGCE Primary University led route all Foundation Subjects are covered. Students currently get:

•

2 x 2 hr sessions in Geography, History, RE, Drama, Design & Technology, Music

•

3 x 2 hr sessions in PE

•

4 x 2 hr sessions in Modern Foreign Languages

All the sessions above are delivered by specialist lecturers. On top of this students also receive the following:

•

2 lectures to support the assignment on the Foundation Subjects

•

1 self supported trip to visit a place outside the classroom to investigate Learning Outside the Classroom (school trips) and the teaching of the Foundations Subjects

•

1 conference type – poster presentation (non assessed) to illustrate their findings form the above visits

With regards to teaching the Foundation Subjects on placement, you would teach 60% of the timetable with a minimum of one Foundation Subject on your first placement, and on your second placement you would be teaching up to 80% of the timetable including multiple Foundation Subjects.
