Hi cpreecey,

Hope you are having a good day! Ravensbourne is situated by the 02 area in North Greenwich and we have a uniquely designed building to increase collaboration. We offer a Foundation Art and Design course which will enable you to enhance your skills and become a independent designer. I'm currently a final year Graphic Design student but I did a foundation year before started my BA in Ravensbourne and it was one of the funnest educational years I have had. The course is intense but it really helps you stand out from others while starting your BA later on. It was a great atmosphere to be in since you will not only be with other foundation students but you will also be able to meet BA students.

During the first five weeks you will be doing a week in Fashion Design/Promotion, Visual Communication, Lens-Based Media (animation; photography; film and video; broadcasting), and 3D Design (architecture; interior; product; interactive design). After the initial five weeks you will than go on and choose a pathway to specialise in. Depending on the pathway you will have one to two weeks for each project. It is fast passed but it does help you to become experimental and teaches you how to create prototypes quickly.

I would recommend coming to an open days to get a real sense of the atmosphere as well as a chance to speak to the course tutors and students. You will be able to ask them questions, get a better understanding, and look around at their facilities as well as student work . Also have a look at portfolio requirements for this course as well and if your struggling with creating a portfolio we also offer portfolio and showreel workshops. If you come to our open day there will be a talk on portfolios and showreels on the day as well.

I hope this helps and if you have more questions please feel free to ask,

Hi Row! On the Foundations course at Ravensbourne, can one focus on animation after the first five weeks of multi-art adventures? Is there a chance to get help during the foundations course for animation focus? (art and design media fdn)

Hi @sparklylab

Within our Foundation pathways we have:

Fashion and textiles design and Fashion promotion

Graphics

Lens-based media (animation; photography; film and video; broadcasting)

3D design (architecture; interior; product; interactive design)

If you wanted to focus on animation you would take the Lens-based media pathway and you could explore animation further but would also learn about the other subjects giving you a broader knowledge.

If you would like further knowledge please come to our Open Day on Saturday 23rd February to meet current students and listen to a course talk. As well as portfolio and interview tips.

Thank you,
Mollie
