Even if Rouhani did feel like destroying his domestic standing to meet with this blimp there isnt a hope in hell theyd agree to a new deal unless the US made substantial and legally unbreakable commitments. As thanks to Trump the US's word is lower than mud in international circals... in short they are untrustworthy - as Mr Ali Kamenei noted.

Trump is surrounded by people for whom Iran/Israel is a (arguably the) major driving force in their world view/purpose. These people (along with the most powerful foreign lobbies in the world) will work with everything they have to prevent any form of diplomatic detente with Iran.

Hence, the plan by Macron to get a direct meeting between Rouhani and Trump - to cut-out the extreme anti-Iran neo-cons Trump has surrounded himself with. Rouhani seems to have been going along with this, recently stating in a speech in Iran that he would be willing to meet with Trump if it was in Iran's interests. So it looks like we could see a Trump-Rouhani meeting next month at the UNGA.

The problem is that Trump's demands are conflicting. Sometimes he says all he wants is for Iran to not develop nuclear weapons - that conversation was had for the better part of 2 years, culminating in the JCPOA (which the US violated despite Iran's compliance). Alternatively, driven by Pompeo, he sometimes makes an outlandish list of '12 demands' (which for Trump come under demanding Iran to "act like a normal country" - like his very normal Israeli and Saudi allies, one presumes). The acceptance of these demands would be tantamount to Iran volunteering to give up their sovereignty and bow to the imperialist bully (and become a nice vassal state like most countries are vis-a-vis the US). That is to say, not damn likely whilst the IRGC are around.

Totally agree with this but i'd also add on, further to my previous comment, that thanks to Trump and his band of terrorists sympathizing sycophants ruining the previous deal they have destroyed any good will Khamenei had towards dealing with 'the Great Satan' and no unreasonably so. He gave negotiations a chance and was shown in no short order that America is far to perfidious to be trusted to keep its word.
Whilst Rouhani may or may not want to craft another deal i severely doubt he'll be allowed to, after all most of his political capital is gone thanks to Washington. A deeply ironic turn of events as all theyve done is undermined the moderates and seriously emboldened the hardliners and conservatives.

Quite possibly but he also seems to think of himself as a 'master deal maker' despite all evidence to the contrary. At any rate even if he were sincere in wanting a new deal, Rouhani doesnt have the power to make one with Trump and Trump has irrepressibly blotted his copy book with Khamenei
