Gas Exchange Question - Critically compare the gas exchange mechanisi in organisms.

I have no idea whether or not this is relevant to the question you are asking but I will just give a few thoughts.
Similarities between gas exchange in INSECTS and PLANTS:

Final diffusion pathway is in the gaseous phase.

No cell is far from external air, this results in a short diffusion path for respiratory gases (in insects the tracheal system ensure that tracheoles permeate every body tissue of the insect and so every cell is close to the end of a tracheole and therefore external air) (in plants, leaves possess numerous pores called stomata and as no cell is far from a a stoma, all cells in a leaf are close to external air).

Both plants and insects have openings that are able to be opened and closed in order to conserve water/ allow for the diffusion of respiratory gases (spiracles in insects) (stomata in plants).

Differences between gas exchange in INSECTS and PLANTS:

Insects obviously possess a specialised gas exchange system (the tracheal system) whereas plants do not.

Insects are able to contract muscles in their body to allow for mass movements of air in and out of the tracheal system (maintenance of a steep concentration gradient of respiratory gases in/out of respiring cells) whereas plants may not carry out any such movements.
