Ucas worries
Hello everyone, a few days ago I applied through ucas to study chemistry
Now looking back at my personal statement I’m concerned I may have made it look like I’m more interested in a career in biology? Not sure if this is me being stupid and over thinking, so would like some opinions please? Do u think this will stop me getting any offers : I put something along the lines of
“ A long- term career aspiration would be working as a chemist in a laboratory researching new drugs to combat diseases and deadly viruses that the world may face, such as the coronavirus.”
Can’t stop panicking

Or maybe pharmacology/ biochemistry? I’m really worried what do people think?!?

That might be more biochemistry than chemistry, but that also falls under the umbrella of organic chemistry. It shouldn't stop you getting any offers! Good luck!
Yes that’s what I think too, biochemistry is defo something that interest me but that’s why I’d rather go into chemistry as it’s more broad and then specialise once I know what I really want to do, so you really don’t think it’ll stop me getting offers?

Hello, I don’t think you need to be worried at all! Large numbers of chemistry students go on to work as analytical chemists/toxicologists/pharmacologists etc etc which are all heavily involved in researching new drugs. Although the type of statement you mentioned may be more common amongst applications to medicinal chemistry, biochemistry etc it shouldn’t affect your application at all. Chemistry is vital in that area of research. It is good you’ve mentioned further career goals, many admission officers say it is useful to demonstrate your love for the subject through showing your long term goals. Don’t worry!
