What are ucas points? How to get them?

I'm lost on what exactly ucas points are and how they're useful. All I know is that if I do well on the subjects in chose for a levels I get more ucas points. I was hoping someone could explain what they are and how to get more (other than just my A levels).

Hi there :hello:

Baiscally they're a way of converting all the different qualifications people can take into a single system to help universities. The only time you really need to worry about UCAS points is if you're looking at unis and they state that their entry requirement is a certain number of points. However, lots of universities will make an offer based on (often three) A-levels, if that's the qualification you're going to be sitting. If that's the case for the unis you want to apply to, then you don't need to worry about getting extra points, as long as you're sitting enough A-levels and in the right subjects to meet the requirements. :yep:

UCAS have a calculator here if you're especially interested: https://www.ucas.com/ucas/tariff-calculator

(I've written this as a general answer. If you're happy to tell me what stage of education you're at, I can potentially help you further )

Just remember that top Unis dont 'do' UCAS points - they make offers for specific subjects/grades and that is what they want, not 'something equal to xxx UCAS points'.

OK, if you're planning to start studying 3 A-levels (or indeed BTECs equivalent to 3 A-levels) then you should be fine, really :yep:

Just make sure you do them as well as you can!
