Graphic design +______ courses in UK

It's quite uncommon to find creative art & design degrees combined with other subjects - the nature of creative education makes it difficult to combine the degrees.

What would you like to study alongside graphic design?

Indeed, as @PQ mentioned, it is rare to have arts courses combined due to their nature.

However, I'd closely look at modules if I were you and see how flexible the university you're looking at is with the format in which you deliver assignments (so that you can be more creative).

I'd also suggest building up a graphic design portfolio - either for getting involved through societies or student media (radio, student tv, or printed publications). There are hundreds of ways for you to do this as everyone always needs good graphic design for their products, campaigns and events!

I personally built up my graphic design portfolio and that's how I got jobs in Marketing. Before that, I studied Film & TV Production at York, which was really great in terms of staying creative and exercising design in different ways.

I also really wanted to do a joint degree when I was applying to unis (something like film and biology or film and history). However, I couldn't find any, and I quickly realized that even with a single subject degree, I can research topics in sociology, history, psychology (and more) and link them to film, since the degree is so interdisciplinary (at least that was my experience at York). And I still got to make films and TV shows! So it wasn't all about just reading and writing.

You can have a look at how courses vary from module to module so that you can get an idea of what may work for you (and what definitely isn't for you).

One last piece of advice - if you do go down the route of Film & TV or Marketing/Advertising, know that there are hundreds of different jobs in those sectors, and through going to uni you can really explore your options. From our film & TV cohort, we have people who work in the camera department, in marketing, in theatre, costume design, in the locations department and a good friend of mine works as a full-time art director and props assistant. So there is endless opportunity
