I think that answered your question :awesome:

I'm not running anything really, just picked up running on top of gym work for fitness :p:

Plus it's quite a nice way to blow off steam :h:

5 days a week of something keeps me busy :p:

You're supposed to be joining me Marathon Boy :colonhash:

Yeah, I will tomorrow after LL. No dance in the evening so I've gotto replace that.

I swear it'd be easier if you just texted me! :p:

Revision is appalling. I'm not even half way through writing up/learning lecture notes. I'm going to have little revision time tomorrow as well. Haven't looked at PBLs yet for the SAQs. Planning on winging the spotter with a couple of hours cramming. I'm determined to pass this exam. I've got a few days left and 13 cans of relentless left in my fridge which says I might just manage it too.

I'm just not sure if I'm focussing too much on going through every lecture (Well, medical lecture. **** ethics/comm skills/bull****) and forgetting about SAQs which apparently most people fail on. I did manage to pass the funmed mock thing on blackboard though before I even started work.

Nope, they sold out like three days after they released them. There's still some on the door though. My girlfriends coming up for the Friday night before we both head back home on the Saturday morning. I'm planning on turning up ~45 minutes early to make sure I can get a ticket on the door. It's going to cost an arm and a leg for us both to go but I reckon it'll be worth it.

Oh welcome to my world! I've got a total of 18 pbls to know inside out for next friday's ICA and I've hardly got any notes for them simply because I just blag my way through the sessions, note-less! Yet, I'm on here, like you, spamming away on TSR. :emo:

FunMed spotter was well annoying last year - I passed (something stupid like 60%) but that's because they ask you stuff you've never even heard of before and you just find yourself trying to make educated guesses rather than knowing what you're going for. But its worth like 5% or whatever. Meh. Cramming ftw.

Preferred EMQs to SAQs at the beginning of the year, but that changed half way through the year! From what I've heard, your lecturers this year have gone into a lot of detail that you probably don't need to know so I wouldn't know what to say about going into too much depth for the SAQs. You probably need the detail for EMQs though - know your drugs; there's almost always an (sometimes more than one) EMQ on that. Oh and there'll probably be a few on proteins/amino acids/carbohydrates/DNA etc. Basically, the more time you spent learning a topic, the more questions on that topic you'll get asked. So if you spent two weeks on cell biology and only one lecture on pharmacology or something like that, the questions you get asked will be weighted as such. Well that's what they say they do.

Shame about Amateur Transplants. But damn, they sold out early! I'm sure you can get it at the door.

To be honest, I think FunMed was the most definitely the hardest of the ICAs, purely because there isn't a great deal of structure, later on the stuff is more focused and feel a lot more relevant so if you can pass FunMed you should be alright with passing the other exams (assuming you put some work in that is :p:)

FunMed was my worst exam, and I failed the spotter by like 3% :colonhash:

It would be easier but this way the whole of TSR knows about you running the Marathon :awesome:

No backing out now :colone:
Guys, what happens if you fail one of the exams? And what happens if you fail all? :holmes:
So, I thought it was about time for a change of sig. It's a bit rubbish. I'll tidy it up when I get time.

Fail FunMed - get referred to your academic year tutor who probably just tells you you need to start working harder etc. So nothing really huge - pretty much a heads up for the other ICAs. You just have to average a pass for paper A overall - you can technically fail FunMed (and maybe one more module) and still pass paper A just because medsoc I'm sorry, crapsoc, pulls up your mark by quite a bit.

If you fail paper A, then you're not allowed to sit the end of year exams and get de-registered from the course. There may be a chance to do some remedial work in order to sit the end of year exams, but I'm not totally sure tbh.

But almost everyone passes paper A afaik.

If you fail a part of the ICA, but you pass the ICA overall nothing happens really, just carry on and try to do better for the next one.

If you fail an ICA overall, you'll have to have a meeting with an academic tutor I believe to try and find out why you failed and such..

These ICAs add up to make Paper A, along with PBL write ups and med soc and if you don't achieve 50% overall in Paper A, you will not be allowed to sit the first sitting of exams in May. Ie you only get one chance at the exams and those are the resit exams sat at the end of August/beginning of September

So basically...pass paper A :p:

I can't remember if Paper A affects your ranking or your chances of getting a Merit, it's one or the other, ask MedicineMan, he might remember :p:
Papers A, B, C, D = merits/distinctions
Papers B, C, D = ranking

Paper A doesn't affect what quartile you're in. No idea about merits, I don't really give a **** about them.
This thread = hijacked by med students. :^_^:

Good luck to all those who have already received invitations for an interview. You'll do well.

Same thing happened last year. It's the reason for the obscene amount of posts.

I suppose we're gonna have to take your places next year. I kid, I don't wanna get too far ahead of myself.

How are you finding medicine at the moment?

It's alright. I'm finding it hard socialising with other medics here at Bath though. I can never seem to find any of them after lectures and I've yet to meet any others in my halls

:hugs:

Oh dear. I had this misconception that the halls were separated into what degrees you are doing. :colondollar:

How many students are there in one lecture?

It depends on where you are. I think they might be at Barts or you're given a choice or something.

At Bath though they're not. There's not even an option. Everyone's in together. Baths relatively small since you can't apply. They send out letters to invite you to interview. They pick you per se. I think there's about 100 in our year.

You do reply really, really quickly.

I'm confused to how Bath works? Is it for postgraduates?

Sort of. They always scout for new talent amongst med schools and sixth forms. I went to Barts last year and got scouted and offered a transfer. That's why I know so much about Barts and post in here, I'm still friends with a lot of guys from last year.

I was quite surprised when they approached me. I wasn't like the best of the best or anything. I haven't seen anyone else on TSR get offered a place hence there's no thread for Bath so I chill in here to keep up with old friends.

I never knew this. So, you're the best of the best? How do they do this 'scouting'? Is it based on academics or?
