The LBS brand applies only for MBA. In reality, the Oxford and Cambridge program, and to some extent, the LSE's program, are as good as LBS'. next would be Warwick's, then Imperial's.

But the of course I was splitting hairs here.
I think if you go to any of the top 8-10 you are ok.....

Banks won't say to you NO, you go to Bristol MSc Finance but have a good grade coupled with internships and a first class udnergrad.....

The Imperial program isn't superior to Warwick's program. In fact, FT ranks Warwick higher than Imperial. And, Warwick grads - on average - make more than Imperial grads. There also are many more companies, banks and financial firms that recruit at Warwick than there are at Imperial, and there are available and verifiable data to support this claim.

As for Cass, I believe it's a great program. It may be not as prestigious as the Warwick's program, but it surely is a well-respected program nonetheless, and has already produced alumni who occupy high seats in banking and financial firms.

ziipoo if you ask Cass alumni of course they will tell you that...

It is a fact that the students at the other instituitions will be in general a higher standard then Cass. This tends to be true for when they graduate also.

I wouldn't care where i went if it was one that borisvan mentioned. Although i did end up paying around 8k more at imperial then i would of at Warwick, LSE or cambridge for an unrealted course.

To roxas comment. I am not travelling down X miles for the CFA exam and interviews just for a $3000 dollarish average differential in salary. I like the quant aspect of Imperial as well. I think the 2 universities attract different types of people, I rejected Warwick even though they gave me an offer and personally don't regret it. Arguably better rep internationally but this is subjective.

End of the day, Warwick, Cambridge, IOxford, Imperial, LSE and maybe Cass will not hold anyone who is proactive back.

i dont know. i am not sure if firms see where you have done your msc. ok an msc from lse / imperial from those universities is much better because they have a really good name. i saw people with an msc from warwick and lse and they couldn't get a job but students with ba in economics from manchester and city university got a job at HSBC and Pwc. I do not understand if it is worth to pay £20000 for a master or to pay £10000 and do your master at queen mary and birkbeck. :s
ZZIipoo multiple phd from Cambrdige won't get you a job if you suck.

1) internships// work experience
2) extra curricular activities
3) grade in masters// undergraduate
4) interview skills// likeability

it's the general gist of things. Going to LSE//Imperial won't guarantee a job, but it will increase the chances.

For the argument so will Cass. AVG salary after MSc Fin is said to be around 45k.

Let's see where they all are in a few years time in terms of jobs, salaries etc. Let me put this a different way: I meet/interact with quite a few senior or senior-ish people in IB quite regularly. A good number of them have Masters from Oxbridge and LSE in particular. Some phds. A few with MScs from "lesser" universities, but honestly the top 3 are by far the most prevalent. The only person I recall meeting with only a bachelors was someone from Imperial (as it happens, bachelors in engineering! But he also has a CFA.)

i think you can not be sure for anything. it depends from a lot of things. i agree with you that people with msc from lse, cam and oxf have more probabilities and are more possible to get a job.

hey guys.

I have a question. I get my masters now from University of Westminster with a distinction in a Msc Investment & Risk Finance.

I am struggling to find a job in an investment bank or in an asset management firm. That's I was thinking to pursue a second master in Finance from a more recognisable university.

Cranfield accepted me for a MSc Finance & Management. What is your opinion for doing a second master at this uni. I have only 1 year work experience and not in UK.

Thanks

Many students misunderstand the Cass specialist masters programmes.. most of the replies I have read have been fair if it was a discussion about Universities.. however I feel Cass cannot be compared in that sense.. It is a business school.. a business school specialising in tailoring students to follow their career path.. for example the MSc Finance allowing students to follow either a corporate finance pathway or an investment pathway and provides preparatory classes for the CFA exams.. It has a reputation for being far more practical than other masters programmes that 'Universities' have to offer..

I also feel that some students on previous threads argued that only a few known names in finance where at the Cass careers fair, I have previously been to the careers fair at Cass which improves year on year, this year there will be over 60 firms attending the fair all of them extremely well known. I would also like to add every single individual I know that took part in a Cass programme has landed a fantastic job, I have friends at Goldman, JP Morgan, Barclays, the big four and other top tier firms, with more than a few starting on 60k+ and one particular starting on 78k+ in their first year..

When it comes to business and finance Cass beats most.. I personally am a fan of Oxbridge.. then again who aint.. I believe LSE and Imperial have a greater global reputation, and are more prestigious however then again I believe it is the university and not the finance driven programmes, when it comes to finance and the specialist masters programmes Cass has to offer it is an exceptional institution with Cass itself having an alumni network that spreads to over 150 countries, and also has an institution in Dubai specialising in MBA and EMBA.. I believe the more scientific and numerical courses at LSE and Imperial are greater than the financial courses they have available..

The unfair criticism of Cass, inaccurate and biased comments of some on the thread may influence a student to possibly not make the wisest decisions..

Finally a message to those who are unsure... Contact recruiters and ask what schools they are happy to recruit from, cause in the end it is what they think that matters..

Lets not forget the networking opportunities Cass has to offer such as:

Albeit Cass being slammed quite abit, I think you have to look at who their MSc. 's cater to, I remember at a trading competition in Toronto Cass's team was actually composed of people who had done at the very least a long term internship with either a major European bank or a BB; so I think if anything their Msc.'s seem to be more geared towards people who have already broken in and need the extra qualification/knowledge vs. people actually trying to get in the business or switch altogether; kind of like an EMBA vs. MBA.

P.S. I got in Warwick's Msc. in Finance for those who might suspect I am a Cass troll.

And what about the Master in Finance of IE Business School ranked in second position of ft2011?
Reply 77
or What about the HEC (Paris) MSc FInance which is ranked 1st from FT2011 ?
Reply 78
Hey if you check the FT rankings cranfield ranks 8th according to salary post course completion and Cranfield got a brand name which is known outside the borders of England . It`s a class of 50 students , so it`s easier to get a job from that university.

What do you people say?
Reply 79
They say to me that a second master is a waste of money and maybe it wont be easier for me to get a job....
