My 1.0l 1999 Toyota Yaris.
Mainly learnt in that, my own car, with my dad teaching me. I had three lessons with an actual instructor in a Ford Focus but I didn't like the car or the instructor..

Awful car in just about every way. The main positive was that every other car was easy to drive after I'd driven that thing. It was like a very small tank with a sluggish hamster wheel for an engine and sponge blocks for brakes.

Skoda Fabia vRS, went like a rocket. My instructor told me it was supposed to be 130bhp and 230 torques, but it was actually 180 and 310 
My instructor's DS3 is an absolute dream to drive, so smooth and is rapid as you like. Unfortunately I have learner's insurance on mum's Astra Sxi which is like driving a block of lead, the thing labours to move at all in first gear! Aditionally it has some stupid electronic handbrake button which is annoying as sin!

I must say the acceleration on the DS3 is impressive on dual carriageways. It can easily get you out of trouble.

Learnt in my instructors 1.6 Fiesta Titanium and then my first car was a 1.2 Fiesta Zetec.

and i'll never understand the lifting it up to put it in reverse My instructor had a fiesta but one of his pupils crashed it (oops) so he had a hired corsa from the insurance company and the gear stick was awful, i was like you shoving it into gear :P he got his fiesta back and it's so much nicer than the corsa :P but the best is my mum's polo, the gear box is so smooth!
the reverse thing is just to make sure you dont accidentally go into reverse instead of first, most cars will have some safety feature that does something similar to the lifting up button on the corsa, on my mums you have to push it down loads then move it in the reverse gear

yeah it's so weird i can't believe they put in such a seemingly cheap and nasty gear box/stick :P My mum has a Honda Jazz and the gear stick is the smoothest thing in the world i love it.....
yeah i know but its still really difficult to do, in the Honda, reverse gear is just opposite 5th gear, which makes much more sense to me
Did it in a 2012 Ford Fiesta at first and then my instructor switched cars to a 2013 Ford Focus for the last 6 week before I passed.

And I've done about 7 hours with Bill Plant, with a further 2 hours this Sunday. I've done about 18 hours with AA and 2 hours with the dreaded Driveland.

haha yeah cos otherwise the car is really nice to drive, just the gearbox is a major let down :P
the button thing in my instructors wasn't that bad actually :P i always thought having it opposite 5th was weird cos its more effort to change gears when you're doing 'a turn in the road using both forward and reverse gears' but thats just me personally :P
