Showing possession

If it's not a human do you still show possession?

For example

the door's handle or doors handle?
the car's bonnet or the cars bonnet?
the bed's wood or the beds wood?

Yes, you do.

But not if it's "its."

For instance, say you were talking about a door. It would be "Its hinges came off."

Not "It's hinges came off."

Just adding that in there because even native speakers get that wrong...

So it would be door's, car's and bed's in the question above?

Yes, the reason that "its" is an exception is because "it's" is a contraction of "it is". Therefore you write"its" to show possession and "it's" if you mean "it is".
